If you pay any attention to ESPN, you would certainly think so. Recruiting wise, neither coach did real well, with Stoops and OU coming in behind Texas at #15-17 and South Carolina ranking well below many SEC teams at #19-21. Both teams regressed badly last season. OU finished at 8-5, including a pounding by Clemson in their bowl game (40-6). South Carolina has a worse W-L record at 7-6 including a 35-17 loss at Clemson. OU has not won a Big 12 title since 2010. South Carolina has not won a SEC title under Spurrier. Both HC's are losing assistants. It certainly appears that the winds of change are blowing in Norman and Columbia.

Spurrier killed confidence in the program by stating his time table at USC to the media. Bonehead move.

I can't believe Spurrier is still there. He's been there 10 years, w/ this season being #11....he was at UF for 12 years. Unreal. It does seem his time is coming to and end there. His 2014 team was supposed to be pretty good and many picked them to win the East. They faltered big time, right out of the gate when Texas A&M blew them out.

Following Spurrier very closely over the years, I have a hard time thinking he came back to go out on a sour note. He may surprise us this year. On the other hand he may tank it.

I think Stoops plans to stick around a while. He brought in an exciting new OC plus several other assistants. I expect them to improve this year. He's too young to hang it up just yet.

I'm betting Riley will have a head coaching job within two years. I hope I'm wrong, but Stoops has never been able to hold on to his good OC's for very long. And Riley is good.

Why is that? Does OU not pay their assistants very well?

They all found head coaching jobs. Leach, Mangino, Wilson, Sumlin all landed HC jobs at Power 5 schools. Hard to pass on when it's your first HC job and you triple your previous salary. Riley will be next. He is a much sought after coach. Riley turned down several offers including very good one at Notre Dame to come to Oklahoma...

Spurrier wants to go out a winner. Some of us thought if he'd had another 11 win season last year he might have just hung it up. You could see the excitement in him during that three year run. Even got cocky again. Last season almost killed him.

He's like most long time successful coaches...scared of life without football..

It must be deeper than that. None of the assistants you hamed have done a really outstanding job as HC's. A bunch of one and out type HC's. Mangino and Leach had one super year each. Sumlin has yet to prove himself, losing 5 games his first season without "Johnny Football". Mangino and Leach have been gone for over 11 years, so they should not even count. That is way too long of a time period. How many USC assistants under Pete Carroll have become HC's?

This is why I hate even responding to your posts. Your trying to make an issue out of something that isn't there, simply because you like confrontation. If you can't understand why assistants take jobs that are offered to them based on being a successful program that has gone to 4 national championship games and numerous BCS bowl games in the Stoops era, then I can't help you. Jump to your own conclusions, and stop wasting space on this board.

Totally agree GS. He's becoming a CP.

What Pete Carrol assistants got jobs? I can name 2 that fell flat on their face: Kiffen & Orgeron.

Having 5 coaches from your coaching tree go on to get big jobs is a major accomplishment. They won't all be successful. Look at Saban; his two most successful coaches are Fisher & McElwain (and the jury is still out on McElwain....and McElwain was only with him for 4 years later in his career). Dooley, Williams, & Muschamp were huge, huge failures.

Spurrier has had a couple....does Stoops count as one of his? Carl Franks bombed at Duke, Bobby Pruiett did pretty well at Marshall. Charlie Strong (he coached for Holtz, Spurrier, and Meyer).

Urban Meyer has had a good run of assistants (some were only with him a couple of years, others longer): Dan Mullen, Doc Holliday, Kyle Whittingham, Mark Sanford, Gregg Brandon, Steve Addazio, Tom Herman. Here's a list I found on a google search:

There are ten individuals who have worked under Meyer that have gone on to be head coaches at the FBS level at some capacity, while another three coach at the FCS level. They are:
Steve Addazio, Boston College (Florida OL/OC under Meyer)
Gary Andersen, Wisconsin (Utah DL under Meyer)
Tim Beckman, Illinois (DC at Bowling Green under Meyer)
Gregg Brandon, Bowling Green, now OC at New Mexico State (OC at Bowling Green under Meyer)
Doc Holliday, Marshall (Safeties coach at Florida under Meyer)
Dan McCarney*, North Texas (DL at Florida under Meyer)
Dan Mullen, Mississippi State (OC at Florida under Meyer)
Mike Sanford, UNLV, now HC at Indiana State (OC at Utah under Meyer)
Charlie Strong, Texas (DC at Florida under Meyer)
Kyle Whittingham, Utah (DC at Utah under Meyer)
Everett Withers, James Madison (DC at Ohio State under Meyer)
Jay Hill, Weber State (GA at Utah under Meyer)
* = McCarney was a head coach at Iowa State before working for Meyer, but we're counting him on this list anyway
