Stoops had a good reason for running up the score

The people who vote in these polls are a very fickle bunch of voters. If Stoops puts in his second unit with OU up 48-21 and let's Missouri score another couple of scores, how good does 48-35 look to these voters compared to a 62-21 score? You combine that with a possible loss by Cincy tonight to Hawaii (one of OU's opponents) and it weakens their standings in the computers too. Stoops was making sure. And I don't blame him one bit. If the voters are anywhere near as idiotic when it comes to reality as some of the posters than I've seen on this board tonight, then it pays to be on the safe side of the BCS vote.

How about every other time he runs up the score, when a BCS bid is not on the line?

Stoops is notorious for this...

A BCS bid is always on the line. Every game. I don't agree with it. But this is the game you have to play with the BCS. Don't blame a coach for wanting to better his team's position. This is what major college football is all about when it comes to getting to a BCS bowl. I didn't make the rules. And neither did Stoops. But he understands how the system works.

I agree with GoSooners.

The score was 48-7 and Oklahoma was simply matching Missouri's late scores to keep that margin of victory. Nothing wrong with putting up 60 points in a game, especially under the current BCS system. Good teams half to run up the score in an attempt to make it into the top two. If there were an 8 team playoff, all running up the score would do is improve a teams seeding.

Great, what was he trying to prove, that he could lose 5 BCS games in a row?

Pete Carroll and Mack Brown have had ample opportunties to run the score up this year and didn't do.

Can't wait till Urban runs it up on that joke D that OU has.

Exactly. GoSooners won't admit this. Carroll and Brown take the high road, as do many others. I truly believe OU's defense will be sorely exposed, as it was on October 11th by Texas, and they will be battered by Florida. Only 2 teams has Oklahoma played with a solid defense, and that was TCU and Texas. Look at what both of them held OU to. I believe GS's insight into this game will show that, and he will have a best bet on Florida. There's no way around it.

I have no problem with him or any other team running the score up. Try not sucking Mizzou.

Of course Stoops could just do this to camouflage the fact that he chokes in big games haha... He could do it because he is ashamed of 45-35...

Florida, Boise St, USC....

I can't wait until someone intentional hurts a Sam Bradford or similiar player for OU.

i hear ya Veggie... if it happens it will be on stoops but it is his prerogative to run up the score. especially when he has to make people forget he lost heads up on a neutral field to the number 3 team.

Don't forget OU's humiliation against West Virginia last year.

JOKE "D".........HA HA HA...Are you just stoned out of your mind or do you not watch the OU games ?

First of all, I would not call it running up the score because I have no doubts that if he wanted to run it up to 80 and 90 last night and against TTech ....he would have and easily could have....OU did not play with a vengence last night....they played smooth methodical and anything but hard. That was so easy for them ...they make it look like a playground.....60's is just about normal for them .....when you score 40 points before half...its hard to just slow down toooo slow...come on ,,,, what are they suppose to do? just lay down and not make Mizz look so bad.....we all know that Chase is an awsome athlete and he is surrounded by the same ...but OU is no match match for any team out there right now....they are clicking and on fire with relative ease...they deserve what they have coming and rightfully so...so quit crying and running your mouth about things that just are not so.....:howdy:

Urban Meyer took a knee in Alabama territory on the last play. Stoops would never do that.

Of course Meyer would have kicked a FG if he was laying 13.

Blame it on the NCAA as the voting crap kinda mandates these coaches keep the peddle to the metal.

Collegeint sports is not suppose to be about rubbing a weaker squads face in the dirt.

Hand the ball off run clock stay healthy and on to the next opponent.

They need a playoff like every other sport in the universe.

Yes,they really got shut down. Combined, they scored 70 points against these two teams and Bradford threw for 798 yards and 9 TDs.

I think it's hilarious when a moron tries to make a point and proceeds to kick his own ass.

a couple posts above said it best....OU was methodical last night...they just went about their business... but watching it i never had that feeling like they were really really going for the throat and they still got to 60....ad yes they do make it look like playing flag football on a playground...its insane to watch them on offense....i was especially impressed with their defense in the 1st half bc MO is a very good offensive football team and the OU D basically shut them down for a half....the final #s may have looked a bit different but we all know the score at the half and OU D relaxed in the 2nd half...

i think they are gonna get 50 vs FLA....

stoops did it because his is a classless prick who is a bully. pinckel at missouri isn't much better going on 4th down behind by 34, but the cocksucker at ou could have put in his subs.

he is insecure about his coaching in big games.

the next sentences say it all about being an overated a-hole.

1-4-04 sugar bowl ou-6 final lsu 21 ou 14
1-4-05 sugar bowl ou-1 final usc 55 ou 19
1-1-07 fiesta bowl ou-8.5 final boise st. 43 ou 42
1-2-08 fiesta bowl ou-6.5 final wvu 48 ou 28

sec, pac 10, mid-major, big east with trick plays, lame duck coaches all as favorites he has coughed up a pubic hair ball every time, consistenly getting out coached.

it's hard to root for urban meyer who is nearly as arrogant as stoops but most football fans with a brain will be rooting for the gators to kick the sooners butts again.

Agreed. I am not an Okla fan but anyone who thinks what he did was wrong given the current system doesn't understand what's going on. He could not leave anything to chance. Now GS, the question is can the man show up for the big game. We have disagreed about his performance in the past few bowl games. You have given him somewhat of a pass where I think he didn't have his team ready at all. (usc, wvu) I hope he changes something in his preparation or game planning or changes SOMETHING because the last few haven't been so good. At any rate grats to Okla on making the big one. Please just give us a decent game.
