louisville is laying 10 points in the sweet 16? a team that had a tough time with morehead st and siena is laying 10 points to a team coming off two 13+ point wins including a win over a red hot cleveland st team who beat the likes of wake, butler and syracuse earlier in the year. now im fully aware that cleveland st and utah arnt exactly powerhouses, but neither are morehead and siena. the key players here are going to be fogg, wise, and johnson who combined for only 8 turnovers in 2 games vs UCLA, a team with a full court press style similar to louisville. i believe that these 3 guys can take care of the ball and beat that press. so if budinger and hill can make shots, i not only think arizona can cover, but make it extremely close, especially in the first half. that is why i am also adding

Arizona +5 1st half

consistency has been an issue all year for the wildcats, but i think they come out focused and ready to play on the big stage.

Syracuse +1

this game should be very exciting. red hot jonny flynn and the orange vs blake griffin and the sooners. here is what i think it comes down to. we are going to see alot of rick jackson in this game. playing against the griffin brothers is never easy, but syracuse has a guy in jackson who averages 22 mins and has only fouled out twice. (once in the ot game vs uconn) with him and onuaku playing down low you now have a formidable pair capable of slowing down the brothers and staying out of foul trouble (face it, there is no way to stop blake griffin). i think that syracuse is little deeper up front and flynn, devendorf, and rautins have the abilty to match the long range threat with consistency against warren, crocker and johnson. add in the fact that syracuse is 9-1 over its last 10 games, i think the orange will be just a little too much for the sooners tonight.

Out of curiousity, what makes you think the carolina/zaga game is going to go under? if anything, i think i'd be leaning towards the over... they run and run and run - the ACC as a whole plays zero defense, and Gonzaga should have the athletes to score the ball (I don't think quite at the pace that UNC will, as I see UNC winning by 12-14) but just wondering what makes you like the under on this game... best of luck!

UCLA's defense is nothing like Louisville's, and they do not use a full court press

as UCLA alum, ive watched ben howlands defense play press for at least 4-5 mins a game all season. not nearly as much as louisville, but when ucla pressed, arizona shredded it. i will agree with you that it isnt the same beast, not even close, but its still something that has to be taken into consideration, and its the only time i remember arizona taking on a press. its not the stlye of play im talking about, its the press style

in both cases the press is used to tire the opponent, especially late. the exception being against villanova who absolutly murdered them when the press was used to try to get steals. but you are correct.

AND to force TOs and rushed shots...Some full court presses are just better and quicker, and they have one of the top handful of full court presses in the NCAA; they rotate constantly to keep guys fresh. I might tease UL to -4.5... I feel they should win by double digits but they've also had their share of head scratchers this season, especially early.

Kansas ML

kansas walking into east lansing and got ambushed. they never saw it coming. down 37-18 at half, they played much better in a second half which they outscored mich st 44-38. the difference was free throw shooting ( kansas 17-28 and mich st was 26-35) if the free throws were the same, even after a piss poor first half, the jawhawks would only have lost by 4 (on the road). now at a neutral site, (well, kind of) the jawhawks have revenge on their minds and more experience. mich st got lucky to escape against usc, and i dont think it happens here

you're right, but louisvilles main goal is to tire apponenets and then pound them the second half. i've watched this all year. i expect a close first half, then watch louisville pull away in the 2nd half, but probably not covering the 10. louisville, without the press, isnt the best team in the ncaa as far as talent, but they use the press so effectively. thats what made them the number 1 seed. any team that can shred the press has a punchers chance against them, and arizona has the guards to do it, with the very dangerous hill and budinger waiting down court. if budinger or hill get involved in the back court, zona will be toasted by 20. im banking on them staying in the front court all game against the press

Gonzaga +8
Under 162.5

gonzaga always plays down to the competition. dont know why, but all season long they only seemed to care in the final 10 minutes. maybe they were waiting for a challenge like this. i think the zags possess many matchup problems for UNC. the zags have 2 guys that are 6-11, a guard who is 6-8, and a guy who may be able to guard lawson in pargo. if lawson is hobbled, then i think the zags have no probelm covering and if there is any truth to what roy williams said yesterday that lawson told him he was only about 60% then i think the heels are in trouble. that being said, if lawson lacks the ability to play at 100% and distribute, then the heels scoring goes down immediately. also, if you give roy williams and mark few 5 days to prepare a team, and that team is very offensive minded, what do you think the focus is in practice? defense. i think the teams will come out running, but the defense will be stepped up early and often. the zags have only crested 160 4 times this year, and i just dont see a team that went over 160 at a 12% clip going over that number twice in row.

bol to everyone :toast:
