Every now and then I hear about somebody I respect as a winning sports or poker player blowing off a large amount of money gambling on games other than their specialty.

Knowing what you cannot beat is very important. There is no need to play sports that you have proven to lose at. I know the need for action takes over often, but atleast decrease units if you have to play on some sport you don't do well in.

I had a really, really hard time with this article.

I know a great deal of serious, winning advantage players. While it is true that in rare occasions they might play a negative expectation game for fun, it is always for peanuts or comps, NEVER for anything approaching 1/20 of their normal bet size.

Show me a guy betting a "normal" unit size when playing a game he is not an expert at and I'll show you a typical loser, who isn't nearly as good at his field of expertise as he thinks he is.
