Reeves has coached 23 seasons in a League where short life span is the rule, not the exception. To make it to one Super Bowl is amazing. Four? Many coaches can only dream of that. He is surpassed only by Landry in losses? I suppose Landry doesn't desrve to be in Canton either. Babe Ruth has more stikeouts than anyone, so lets throw him out of Cooperstown too.

Stevie, you are way out of line this time. Reeve's record IS Hall of Fame, and he is not through coaching yet.

I don't believe that Nover is an idiot, but his opinion of Reeves seems pretty out there. Steve, are you really a cop? If so, from where? I heard cops love to gamble on sports. I always wondered if it was a conflict of interest for cops to gamble when a lot of them are assigned to bust bookies? Take care.

Meyer Lansky,
I personally know 3 chief of police in three different cities in NY that gamble and 2 of them are the biggest customers my local guy has!

Steve - Just because Nover has a different opinion than you do on a certain subject does not make him an idiot. I also did not see him write anything about Tom Landry or Babe Ruth. Why did you bring them into the discussion.

BTW, I happen to disagree with Nover on this one, but he is certainly entitled to his opinion without someone calling him names like a little child would.

Okay!!

Nover is not an idiot! His opinion on this matter, however, is ill-informed and extremely objectionable. I just hope Dan doesn't need Nover's vote (in the unlikely event he has one) to get in.

I disagree for the most part here as well, but Reeves would have never been to any Super Bowl in Denver without #7...

Reeves was a solid player as well...

Mr Nover`s opinion on this is not that 'out there' IMO...

Borderline HOF`er....NFL has some greats that aren`t in!

What coach ever won a super bowl without an outstanding QB? Maybe a case can be made for the Ravens and Trent Dilfer. The rest all had very good (at least) players at QB.

wil,
I agree a coach's success is largely a byproduct of his player's talents. Look at those loaded Dallas teams with Aikman, Smith, Irvin. They had 4 to 5 legitimate all-pros on the offensive line, and all three of those and the coach would be nowhere near HOF considerations without the talent surrounding them.

Parcells made it to the Super Bowl with both Jeff Hostetler and Drew Bledsoe. Both very mediocre QBs. That my friends is a coach.

How are you, hope all is well in the desert. You are right about Parcells, he did win one with Hostetler, and got to another with Bledsoe. His teams (especially the Giants) were similar to the Raven team that won. Great defense, and a strong running game. The Pats with Bledsoe, although he lost, was one hell of a coaching job. On his resume he can list:

2003: Going 3-10 with a team forecasted to win 8 to 8.5 games (line AFTER Vick goes down).

SBs: By simply betting action points AGAINST this guy you would have made a fortune.

AFC championship games: Lucky, lucky, lucky. If not for a miracle drive and a lucky fumble this guy would have lost two championship games vs. inferior Clevaland team.

Nover-rated? NOOOOOOOOOOOO. OVER rated.

Four Super Bowl appearances is lucky? I guess Phil Jackson is "lucky" also. You don't accomplish what Reeves did with luck. He is one of the best.
