Don't think for one moment(that all) NY Yankees were trying to win games 4 and/or 5. With each extra game worth 212 million to Steinbrenner. That could be 500 million in revenue to bring the series back to NY. It is a calculated risk. NY is probably -400 to win one of the remaining games in NY. $$ talks....If NY had blown out Boston it would have literally killed all interest in the game. Now there is excitement..now there are commercials, tix sales..concessions..tv rights across the world....Almost an unwritten law that needed the series back in NY..It's all showbiz folks....

212 million?? What crack are you smoking.

Tell me how Steinbrenner will make 212 million tommorow?

Hmm lets see here tickets are already sold, they go for what about 50.00 a pop on average?

Ok 50.00 * 57,546 capacity= 2.8 million.. Give or take 200 grand for concessions thats barely 3 million. A far cry from 212 million. Oh wait they must get 209 million for tv rights.. LMFAO.

Also, unless they work for free they have to pay the players and stadium employees.

Besides, that pitch to ortiz was not an easy pitch to hit.

international tv rights are staggering per game

Japan alone pays hundreds of millions for TV rights to US World Series.Do you know what the commercials cost across the world? You guys arereally in the blind...tix sales and concessions are just local. Also do you know the price of a hot dog at Yankee Stadium? that could take in a few million right there.

I have no earthly Idea what they bring in on the concession side.

I do know however, that Steinbrenner won't be making anywhere near 212 mil tommorow.

I would say 5 mil @ the maximum.

57,000 people spending a total of 200k would be about 4 bucks a person.

How much do you think each person spends @ the concession stand? Do you think every person gets 10 beers and 4 hotdogs?

The Yankees don't get extra TV revenue for extra games. Fox has already paid for the rights to carry the games. They are the happiest right now. The players also do not get extra money for a 7 game series vs a 4 game series. They get a playoff purse depending on how far they go round wise. Players like Manny and ARod are taking a huge paycut during the playoffs versus their regular season earnings.

future revenues are tied to current income

If Fox goes down in 4 games the payoff to the yanks goes down dramatically next year.....
