it is absurd that a team like the bears or ravens did not sign him before the steelers got him as a backup.. no one can say that rex grossman or kyle orton would be a better option than leftwich

I would take Rex over Leftwich. I loved the guy when he was at Marshall, but he just isn't starter material. Rex sometimes makes you wonder how he is in the league, but he does have a good skill set and can be successful in the NFL. He needs to get confidence, and some decent players around him wouldn't hurt.

Leftwich is just a security blanket in case Ben gets hurt. In 4-6 weeks Batch will be back, and if Leftwich does good in pre-season and fits into Pitt's system, he could stay on the team.
Just because a QB doesn't fit in one system, doesn't mean he couldn't blossom in another.
Farve was a back up on SF in his first years and you all know what he accomplished in GB.

San Fran? You mean the one year he spent in Atlanta who drafted him with the 6th pick in the 2nd round in 1991 right?

Yeah it was Atlanta and they lost to Washington in the playoffs in 91.:ohno:
I think he didn't complete a pass that year for Atlanta and threw an interception on his first throw.

I mean, Leftwich was hampered by injuries for most of his career, so he never ended up being a consistent top QB in the league. But when he did play on the Jags, he wasn't bad and had a better rating than Rex ever has. Not to mention, he was able to hold off David Garrard from starting for a considerable amount of time, while Rex couldn't even hold off pathetic Kyle Orton. At this point in their careers Rex would probably be better because he is in better shape and knows the offense, but the fact the Bears wouldn't try to bring in a vet who has had some success at the QB position before to at least compete with Rex and Orton is ridiculous.
