Steve Davis NFL Handicapper >>>>>>>>> These two met last season, a 17-14 win by the Patriots on the road. This was about the last time that the Patriots may have mattered. They have morphed into one of the worst offenses ever committed to an NFL football field and that won’t chance with the loss of Stevenson. Zappe is not the answer either and the New England coaching staff seems to be snoozing at the wheel. Keep in mind that Trubisky would be the best quarterback for the Patriots. New England has a grand total of 13 points over a three-game span. The Patriots have been shutout twice and scored in single digits five times this season. Pittsburgh’s defense should be able to send this offense home with little to nothing to show for their efforts.
Take the Steelers giving the points. his isn’t a game for the faint of heart to tune into watch. Both teams have gotten dismal performances from their quarterbacks this season and it may well end up being a battle of backup quarterbacks, depending on whether Bill Belichick sticks with Zappe this week. New England’s offense has been brutal all season long as they are last in the league in scoring offense. Both teams are far better on the defensive side of the ball this season and it could come down to turnovers as to which side emerges victorious. Pittsburgh has at least been able to move the ball the last couple of weeks, which is more than one can say with New England. The Steelers win this game but it’s not one that most people are going to be interested in turning on: have some sympathy for Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit. Pittsburgh -6
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - , Mike Stewart NFL Capper>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Patriots lost their fifth straight game and suffered their second shutout in a 6-0 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers at home in Week 13 New England has the worst record in the AFC and is the first team since 1970 to lose three straight games while giving up 10 points or fewer in each loss. New England is listed as a 6-point underdog for this upcoming road matchup.
Steelers lost starting QB Kenny Pickett in Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals, who must undergo minor surgery to repair an ankle injury that’s been plaguing him all season. The Patriots will rely on second-year quarterback Bailey Zappe to lead the offense. He has 299 yards and no touchdowns with two interceptions this season and stepped into the starting job after Mac Jones was benched before the Chargers game. The Steelers and Patriots have played each other 34 times in their history, with New England leading the series with an 18-16 record and has won 47.8% of their matchups in Pittsburgh. The Patriots have won seven of the last eight games and will be looking for three in a row on Thursday night against their AFC rivals. New England won the last time these two teams met in 2022 by a 17-14 score.
While Pittsburgh has moved the ball in the last two games, they still have problems getting into the end zone, and as well as New England’s defense has been playing, don’t expect them to change that trend with Mitch Trubisky at quarterback. Although the over/under line has been lowered slightly since it opened, expect the Steelers to get a close win while the total goes under the expected 30.5 points.
We’re less than four years removed from Tom Brady’s departure of New England, and the Patriots have quickly become one of the worst teams in football – and despite already owning the second-worst record in the entire league at 2-10, the ship is sinking faster than ever before entering this week, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
Bobby Lancer NFL Analyst Handicapper >>>>>>>>> Belichick’s defense ranks just 15th in the league in scoring, but they have played excellent the last few weeks, highlighted by the Patriots surrendering 10 points or less in three straight matchups against the Colts, Giants, and Chargers. However, their level of defensive success means nothing if they can’t generate points on the other side of the script – and to their demise, the Patriots offense has posted historically bad numbers all season, and it’s only gotten worse as of late. The Patriots enter Thursday following losses in five straight games, which can mainly be attributed to the fact that they scored 17 points or less in all five of those contests – and to take that a step further, the Patriots have scored 17 points or less in 10 of 12 games so far this season – currently ranked dead last in the league in scoring at a whopping average of 12.3 points per game.
n the 24 games played (combined) by the Steelers and Patriots this season, the aforementioned teams have scored 17 points or less in 17 of those matchups – and on the flip side, they’ve also managed to hold the opposing team to 21 points or less on 14 occasions, despite the treacherous offensive play by both sides throughout the year. The total for this contest sits at OU 30.0 as of Wednesday afternoon, which basically translates to: the oddsmakers have no clue where the points are going to come from in this game – and quite frankly, I find myself pondering a similar question. This is going to be a rock fight. Give me the under and Steelers Under 30.0 (-115) I am betting a 7 point teaser in this spot Steelers +1 & Under 37 My prediction of the game 16, Patriots 7 or something like that?
