It's alright stale. The other one had kind of a different version of the article. I can merge the two together it if you like.

It is not the players it is the books. the info is just slightly twisted. We all know that bettors in general love taking favs, and most of us should know that the books take this into account, hence the slight cover by dogs. While I am sure point shaving occurs still today, it is no where near even 1% of all games played, this author either wants to sell his book or got beat like most bettors out there and thinks that his bad beats are caused by point shaving....his discovery is nothing new, but all of a sudden turning it into that a certain percentage of games are fixed is a complete and utter joke......btw this thread should be merged with the other one.

you're the mod, looks like puccini, put the whole article in the post. I didn't mean to slant it one way or another, I think you're comment about the favs says it all.

47%?! Thats nothing. That's just oddsmaking is'nt it? I could see if it were 40% or something.

America loves to bet the fav, so of course more dogs are going to cover.

excellent post and thanks for the merge. hit it right on the button.

A perfect example of point shaving occurred in Men's Olympic curling in the final when Brad Gushue missed a gimme draw in the 6th end for Canada to score "only" 6 and not 7. He apologised to his teammates but it was obvious he was not "running up the score" At that point the score was 10:3 so that total was already over the line of 12.5, but I doubt he even knew what the line was.

If this bozo really believes that games with heavy favorites are fixed and that they only win 47% of the games all he has to do is bet those dogs blindly at reduced juice, hit his 53% and clean up.

You are probably right. But they still deserve something considering how much the school makes off them.

Why are people so naive? They refuse to believe any sports is corrupt. IMO, if anyone tells you they win at basketball they are lying or delusional.
Basketball is by far the hardest sport to win by far. It's almost like your odds to win are 3:1. I stick to golf, because there isn't an amount of money you can wager in Vegas that's comparable to what the player will get if he does well. It's like $30,000-$40,000 increments minimum ea. pos.
It's the only pure game left.

basketball is damn tough...it's already been proven that games have been fixed in the past, and I don't think it will stop people in the future...very hard to tell where there is some funny business...

Lying or delusional. Yup not one person on the planet can pick 52% in basketball.

Surely any research into point shaving should account for line movements before the game / suspicious betting patterns?

It would appear that the guy is a non-bettor.
