A few cops are for real. Ex-military or serious officers who deserve respect. I feel most are lifetime pussies who failed at athletics, and failed in any sort of leadership capacity. The uniform and the badge give them the opportunity to control someone else and more importantly a feeling of power.

I may not be describing this in the best way possible...... but what I am saying is clearly visible in this situation.

i agree to a certain extent. The problem is that the bad the ones make the rest look terrible.

He wasn't breaking up a fight... he was caught selling cigarettes on the street. Guy has been arrested like 20 times already for similar shit. Then he tried to hand fight/resist the cops who were trying to cuff him. There are plenty of screwed up cops out there but this guy brought everything on himself it appears. The only thing that could get him is that cops aren't supposed to use chokeholds, but ultimately it was the heart attack and not the choke that did this guy in.

I've read that guy who died was a nice dude who had broken up fights in the past. Not a dangerous guy or anything, but if you get caught doing something illegal and cops want to cuff you, tough shit... Fight it in the courts. He'd likely be alive today if he did that.

I'm not disagreeing but harassing a guy selling cigarettes seems so petty to me.

True but the guy had a lengthy record and had been busted for it in the past. Cops knew him. Doubt they'd care if they hadn't dealt with him a ton in the past. Still shitty.

have a medical report of his death? i'd like to see this. i highly doubt he had a coincidental MI that was completely unrelated. could be wrong, though.

Probably haven't gotten the autopsy done but that's what the NYPD said. Haven't seen a medical report.

He was in what is referred to as a blood choke but it wasn't tight or he would have lost consciousness. You'd still have to cut off the blood for at least 10 seconds after the guy goes to sleep before it even has a real chance to do anything brain damage wise. People can go unconscious in 2-3 seconds if applied properly so I have a hunch the officer was only using it to hold him in place and not trying to do any damage.

You would think cops something else better to do than harass a guy trying to make money selling cigs. Its not like he's selling crack/heroin. Then again, I think all drugs should be legal since the war on drugs has been a losing battle from the start.

As for the cops in this situation, unless the guy is waving a baseball bat, knife or gun at them, I don't see why a choke hold is needed.

If the guy becomes very aggressive, zap him with the taser, then again, cops have used the taser in circumstances where its not needed.

Police are here to serve us, they are not above the fucking law. We pay their salary, now with all these no knock raids on wrong houses and someone always ends up dead
