Tomorrow, Nick Saban will become the third head coach in NCAAF history to coach his 45th game at the helm of a No. 1 team, joining Woody Hayes and Bobby Bowden. Next week he sets a new bar. Rooollllllllll Tide!

This is true, but he'll throw out the record w/o the extra BCS games. The man is the Bill Belichick of college football. Any high school kid wanting to play college foots has to aspire to playing under the tutelage of this man.

I'm not going to dispute that he is a good coach, but if he is so great why didn't he have this kind of success at Michigan State or Miami?

Jeeeeezus, if he wasn't a "great" coach, why in the hell is Bama winning the National Championship as much as they are??? What, the water in Tuscaloosa is different from what I drink in Charlotte??? Or NO, I get it, the special sauce they put on the Taco Bell tacos is just that, special. Some of the folks here just phucking amaze me at times. Even BEAR BRYANT didn't accomplish that feat, and some goddamn idiot wants to debate me. Where the phuck did you play college ball moron??? DAMN!

Experience, tradition, facilities, money

And that "castle" he has on the lake down there in Alabama. He took a couple of ESPN foots analysts, Danny Kanell I think was one of them and can't remember the other, but he's got a dock capable of mooring an aircraft carrier.

He was pretty good at MSU and left program in solid shape. NFL is a different game and his college bullying coaching style doesn't fly in the pros. He tried to be Parcells and Belichick without the SB rings. That and they took Culpepper instead of Brees.

In all seriousness, let's name the college coaches that went on to be "successful" in the NFL. I can name one and he has a ring, but beyond that, I'm clueless.

Hey Buckeyefan80, I want to apologize, shouldn't have unloaded the way I did. If you are truly a fan of the game, you'd have to admit that Nick Saban is becoming the best NCAAF Coach in history. I've been around some very good coaches, unfortunately not my team, and this man is doing things that imo might never be rewritten. I've listened to him speak on numerous occasions, and had I sons entering college and playing football, I'd only wish that they had the opportunity to play for this man. I don't know what RollTide's take is on this, but I think we're all witnessing something historical.

I once took a 3+ week Nascar road trip and funded whole trip and then some , betting Alabama big and Patriots on Sundays mostly , with some on LSU and a few other top defensive teams in col and pro fb. RAREly bet against Saban or Belichick.

Pretty sure Jim Harbaugh's tenure in the NFL was successful. 46 wins in 4 seasons, 3 straight trips to NFC title game, 1 super bowl appearance with a team that hadn't sniffed the playoffs for a decade prior to his arrival. If that doesn't constitute success in the NFL I don't know what does. It's pretty clear to anyone that has followed Harbaugh's coaching career that the guy is elite no matter what level.

Bama fans are some of the worst though. Those people dont know how good they have it. Cant wait til Saban retires and they see how important great coaching really is. Can you believe that Bama fans call for sabans head if he even loses a single game? Crazy

Nice to see we have a civilized. logical debate on this subject! Path, I don't believe tradition, facilities, and money are what make a great coach. He had some success at Toledo and they really have none of that. Of course, that helps get recruits to make a team better, but great coaches can get recruits and win without all that. Alabama was gifted 1 of those NC's when they got a rematch with LSU. No 2 teams should have ever been able to rematch during the BCS era, especially not only coming from the same conference, but the same damn division! Really?!?!?! It was all made possible by ESPN media sucking off the SEC because of that big TV contract and now they doing the same with the B1G. I also believe that if OSU didn't screw up as 14 point favorites last year, they would have played Bama in the NC game and won, but who knows, that's why they play the game instead of having paper champions, and that is not a homer pick either. I think Urban will do anything to beat Saban ever since Saban turned him down for a coaching job at Toledo. IDK what the head to head is between them but you know their is an actual "hate" between these two. I really didn't think OSU would beat Bama the year before either, so shows what I know too.

Wang I wouldn't say 6-5-1, 6-6, 7-5, 6-6, and 9-2 is successful. Yes, he had a good year in '99 but then he left for LSU, so who knows what might've happened. I will say it is much easier to recruit in the South than it is at any B1G school. Honestly, B1G may be the hardest big 5 conference overall to recruit in considering you have to sell them on playing in the snow late in the season, where the SEC and PAC-12 don't have to worry about that. Big 12 and ACC very rarely has to worry to that either. Yes, the NCAA and NFL are 2 different animals, which is why I believe only great coaches can do both. I'm not sure who you are thinking of T but I can think of Harbaugh (as much as I now hate him), Jimmy Johnson did pretty well too. Barry Switzer was just lucky to have Jimmy's team, you or I could've won the SB with those players, and Pete Carroll are the only ones I can think of. I would rank them Jimmy, Harbaugh, Pete, and I don't even want to put Barry up there since his success win the NFL was only due to Jimmy.

I appreciate the apology and cannot disagree Saban is becoming one of the best coaches ever. Like Tony said, crap happens, but any great coach can win no matter where they are, especially if they have more than 3 years where they can get the players they want. I would also like to point out to Tony that Belicheat may not have been successful in Cleveland, but in '95 many experts were picking them to win the SB before that fuckstick Modell announce he was moving the team. Does anybody know who the Browns' DC was under Bill? Anybody...........Anybody.........SABAN!

I just want to say he is obviously not a bad coach and he will rewrite the history books, but it is all about the situation you have as well. How many NFL players wouldn't have had success or been Hall Of Famer's if they were on other teams? Much easier to recruit in the SEC with all those great players in the South. I would just say a "GREAT" coach can win no matter where he goes. There's a difference between a great coach and a great NCAA or NFL coach.

No need for hateful replies here either, if you want to have an adult, logical conversation about any of this, that's fine. State facts to back your opinions as well, though. Good luck on your plays too.
