the guy has been offered money and has dealt with numerous death threats from right wing whackos. If he was a selfish jerk he would have walked away. obviously he feels he is doing the right thing for someone he loved. we can't read his mind, so we may never know his true intentions but i think he had more to gain by stepping away.

I can respect him and the parents for doing what they both think is the best for her. Since i have personally seen a family go through something similar (although not nearly for as long) i can tell you that you want the person to pass on rather than live in a vegetable state. at least my family did. It isnt an easy decision either way.

she is no more alive than my grandmother - the same grandma who died 5 years ago

your dead grandmother can still breathe on her own?

I know you are trying to make a point but if this poor women was so dependent on 'life support ' and machines as many have claimed, how has she survived these last 12 or so days?

Agree with you on JJ he is such a hypocrite with his concern for anything that involves a camera

winkyduck,

WHO declared YOU, GOD? :movingeye

Only a NARROW MINDED individual would think his definition of LIFE is better defined than that of any Physician or the AMA...

While I am truly sorry about the passing of your grandma 5 years ago, I am more saddened by your apparent inability to view this from more other angles than your own...

For example, by law, this patient has EVERY RIGHT to receive the LIFE SUPPORT measures that she had been getting if that's what SHE wanted...

And believe it or not, I have SEEN first hand how in some cases, albeit very small, that this DEAD person who you decribe, actually begins to regain more levels of brain stem function than anyone had predicted...

So please God, spare me the name calling remarks just because I have a different belief than you do...

P.S.

My grandfather died in Auschwitz when my mom was only 8 years old. He was killed by ADOLPH HITLER simply because he was JEWISH...

I never got a chance to meet him, but when I see pictures of this tragedy on television, it makes me miss him a lot...

Thanks,

exactly! this cracks me up how we have these people that are mind readers. you never know how something feels, this goes for anything, unless you are the person experiencing the situation.

Yes this is a shame, but we are a country of laws and the courts have upheld the husbands decision. So are we suppose to just go against the courts decision which is the "law"?Right/wrong or whatever our beliefs are when the judge reads his ruling that is it, appeal and when they uphold the previous ruling, appeal and when it is upheld, etc....

How often does this happen each month? I would think this isn't common, but it must happen more than we think. This time there is just more press.

How do we know what she really wants?????

her husband said she told him that she wouldnt want to live in this type of situation. is he telling the truth? we will never know for sure, but the courts have ruled in his favor.

Let me ask you this question, do you know if she is suffering every day that she was been forced to stay alive by machines in the last 15 years? We can't positively answer every single question. The courts did the best they could. Its not like the courts want to kill an innocent person.

As previously stated, I wouldn't want to linger, but if I could feel my wife touching my hand each day it might be a reason to NEVER give up as Jimmy V once said. My only reason to throw the cards in would be that I didn't want my family to suffer. If I could talk I would probably say to give it to me...but easy...as even in death I'm a little bit of a coward. We all are when it comes to meeting our maker.

Yes, these are the same ******** that sent Martha Stewart to prison for selling a few thousand shares of stock that she owned. And all so they could make their point and get their public ridicule and press.

good point, one of the most disturbing things about this is no one can predict what will happen. Just to say well nothing has happened in the previous years so let's end it ....
and all the 'experts' who say well she can't feel anything - they don't know - they are giving their educated GUESS. Anyone who declares they know with 100% certainity what someone else is feeling is a fool

Talking about judges.....I can't wait to see the trial for the guy who was arrested today trying to smuggle water into the hospice. He'll probably get the chair. Can you imagine being arrested for trying to give a dying person some water? All because a judge ruled she can't have water anymore....can't wait to see that trial.

It is easy to pass judgment until you have been faced with the decision to either let someone live or die. I have lived that responsibility and anyone who has not, may say what that wish, but words are easy. Making the decision is harder then most can ever imagine. Just be sure that each of you have established what decisons you want made if you are unable to make them for yourselves. Because those that have been left to make those decisions live with them for the rest of their lives. Judge not lest yea be judged.

When I was in the can they called me papa smerf...so I guess you're right on. Being over 50 in the can affords you the luxury of never having to worry when you bend over for the soap....it's an unwritten rule!

Maybe you arent aware but there are thousands of judges in america. Because you may not like a couple of rulings that happen to be in the news does not mean that every judge is clueless. And in the martha stewart trial there was plenty to convict her. You may not agree with the government for bring charges against her, but she was definitely guilty.

Each judge issues hundreds or thousands of rulings a year on trials and motions alone. When one judge issues one bad ruling that is all you ever see on TV. You never see the thousands of decisions that are good or that save people from injustice. so relax when you attack those that spend their lives trying to protect people like you and me.

we need to see that clip where she is unconcious that the media presents to us as her smiling at a relative, becuase i know if we were like that we want a camera shoved in our face. same clip replayed 100 times

next of kin means next of kin

all you naysayers are saying this: "when my wife is unconcious, i dont want choice. let idealolgy settle it for me" . . . loser cowards

if its my wife, i want choice. not ideals from court and whackos bringing in plastic jesus showing my wife with her mouth hanging open passed off as a smile. id know my chic, not no other losers
