I'm overlooking an explanation of why some groups are trios and others are pairs

The object is to get down to a factorial of 2, the next being 32. With 59 still in it, we need to eliminate 27, thus one elimination for each of 27 groups. Only way to do that is 5 groups of 3 and 22 groups of 2. This wouldn't be necessary if we didn't have so many dq's last round. Just makes it easier next round so we can have true head2head matches which was the goal all along.

As for 1 vs 59, I went over my reasoning for this last week... I feel it's more of an advantage to be in a 3-way rather than a 2-way matchup as opposed to being matched against a low seed. 33% chance of getting knocked out vs a 50% chance.

okey dokey...I confess I did mentally invert the challenge and perceived that three was a disadvantage...but it's certainly not.

Seems reasonable that we'll easily identify 32 who will remain committed down the remaining weeks.

If we gave the top 5 seeds a bye, the remaining 54 could go head2head to determine the other 27 to advance with 6 vs 59, 7 vs 58, etc. The only stipulation being that those receiving byes would be required to make at least 10 plays like everyone else and having those plays count toward their YTD record, thus having to earn/risk their high seeding for the next round. Myself, I'm a proponent of having to earn your way to the next round by knocking out an opponent, but on the other hand, maybe they earned it already by gaining the top seed.

Curious to hear what others think about what route to take. If the majority would rather switch, it's not too late I guess. Tonight by 7 ET, we should make a final decision.

^I like the idea of the top 5 getting a bye personally. They did earn it and it would allow for a little smoother 6 vs 59, 7 vs 58, 8 vs 57, etc. Right now we have 50 vs 59 and then matches like 20 vs 30...I realize seedings at this point are still based on a small sample but I don't know if it's fair for the guys doing better to have to face some higher seeds than the guys who came in 50+ playing each other. Just my two cents. I'm fine with either but if I had to vote I'd say top 5 get a bye.

That's exactly what I feared, again having an extra dq due to lack of plays and then awarding the top seed another bye. Thing is, there may be a new top seed so it's not like the same guy would get a second bye. If it was, I'd say he earned it. What I'm trying to eliminate is the 3-way matchups where there's no happy medium as to who gets matched up with who. With 2-ways, it's cut an dry, high vs low.

I guess it's too late now but since 16 out of the 17 that we needed to get rid of were DQ'd, I guess we could have picked the lowest man on the todem pole YTD to be the 17th out and then its 64 H2H. I know you wanted to eliminate 1 from each group and this does not do that.

u didnt really have to reinvent the wheel....i have seen many contest where the early numbers weren't giving exactly the number of matchups needed for future rounds...every one but this uses the format you have decided not to use.... top getting a pass....... the whole idea of seeds is to match best with worst...you continue to garantee 50% of the bottom seeds advancing....but...it is your call.....

I instituted the no copy rule to go into effect starting with the round of 32. Until then, people are on the honor system but like you said, holding off until later to make your picks is a way to avoid this from happening.

I do agree that its tough watching a 54 vs 55 match while a capper in my position faces a much tougher match with 21 vs 29. I believe that byes would help with simplicity and at this point they have been earned. We should rely on a format that gives the best opportunity to find the best capper in the contest. My opinion of course, JOH doin a great job.

Give the first 5 a bye. I think at this point record could be a fluke. I had 5-6 auto losses first round because I thought we were just seeding and almost got eliminated, but truth is....I would much rather be the 25 seed (which I am) than the 6th seed and have to play heads up.

I think we are thinking of seeding in a way we would in real sports. No one has really distinguished themselves yet (sorry to anyone in the top). Heck I would be willing to bet that the 6-7-8 would like to be in a group of 3 than be 6 vs someone near the end in headsup.

Being that I have it made in the a 3 person group and won't have a bye, I can say this w/o bias...Give the top 5 byes. But like you said they would still have to pick or get auto losses and lower his/her seed.
