I have a couple of guys who come into my bar almost everyday who work for a trash company here in my area. They have worked fir this company for a pretty long time now and are no longer those guys who are on regular garbage trucks that pick up the crap on the side of the road from residential neighborhoods. What they do is they empty big containers from big stores like Lowes and Home Depot. They claim to make more from selling the shit that is thrown out by these stores than they do from the wage that they make. I know it is somewhat true because they have given me some really quality things like brand new cordless drills and other things like that for basically nothing. They are not authorised to do it of course, but everyone seems to be in on the scam and there is so much shit thrown away everyday that everyone gets a taste.

It's a shame that a person can still be fired or whatever for taking items from a dumpster. I mean, the stuff was thrown in the garbage with the purpose of being disposed of, correct?

I don't know why they don't just donate the stuff and write it off.

TF, just a guess, but I think it's to avoid being sued in case the product causes illness, injury, or some other loss.

Just seems like a big waste though. I'm guessing the products thrown out were maybe items that were returned? That would be understandable I suppose.

That is what most of the things seem to be. An item is returned and the packaging is ripped or something. Sometimes things are still wrapped completly in plastic as though they have never been opened. Really is crazy and sad shit.

From my understanding the "garbage company" has a contract with some company that comes to where they are supposed to dump the stuff and that is why they are not permitted to just take whatever. But I guess from what I understand the guy who works for the garbage place who checks the truck in is in in on the scam. I really do not know the whole story, other than these guys get a ass load of stuff and have made it clear that they can get in trouble for taking the shit, but have been doing it for years and everyone is making money off of it.

I know everyone that I care about has all the damn power tools they could ever need!
