Dealers do need tips as well, the hourly pay is garbage, like a waitress. I worked with a former poker dealer, she said about $15 / hour in tips, and less than $5 salary. When you take vacation you only get the hourly.

Tough to tip $1 a hand, every hand at lower limits, probably ate into Illini's chances, as he is too nice not to throw the $1 every pot.

It's an unskilled job. If they want to be paid better, they can try and find a better one. Tip is no obligation. I usually leave between 25% to 40% tip when I like the food or if I'm in one of my usual places. If I don't like food or service when I'm trying a new place, I don't leave a tip or I live a tip to the closest rounded number. Expecting a tip in a Casino is ridiculous. EXPECTING a tip anywhere is BS. You have to deserve it to get it.

Another scenario......

$125 buy in NL tourney.....$100 goes to the prize pool, $15 to the house, and $10 to the dealers

44 players(including rebuys), so that's $440 to the dealers and $660 to the house.

4 dealers(39 actual players), probably less than 4 hours......that right there is $110 cash to each dealer for their time.

Is it overboard for the casino to request a generous tip from the winner?
Dude they're dealing cards.........they're not building a space shuttle for NASA. I'll deal cards for $25 an hour are you kiddin? I'll quit tomorrow, I work too hard for the same money.

I'm no fan of expected tips. I don't need some guy in the bathroom to hand me a towel after I wash my hands, looking for a tip.

You could argue a dealer is more skilled than a waitress. I don't see too much difference between tipping either, both are paid low and forced by custom to rely on tips for most of their money. It's just the way it is.

Wow....what bullshit. Casinos make money hand over fist & still have to move the burden of supporting their staff to the customers.

:finger: How greedy can they be?

I'm sure we have some in the industry here, like GD. Unfortunately paying dealers is being passed on to the customers.

I've never been to a casino but the only way I'd tip a dealer is at the end of a winning session and the dealer did a good job say if I won $100 maybe I'd give them $5 or if I was up say $1000 maybe $20 that every hand stuff is bullshit in my opinion

That might work in the casino but not in the poker room. You win over a 12 hour session how you going to tip every dealer that went through in 1/2 hour downs? Like someone else said anytime there is a flop and I win then I throw them a dollar. Never two dollars, but always a dollar. Only change to that is if the dealer forgets to thank me more than once or they look as though they could live without my tip, then I gladly stick it back on the stack and play on.

Very hard to win at low limit live holdem (3-6 and under) considering the RAKE and TIPPING.

One has to be an EXTREMELY good poker player to do so.

Absolutely correct. Some houses now rake $5 dollars, take another dollar for a badbeat jackpot and then you have tokes on top of it? Lot to come out of a 50-60 dollar pot. Almost impossible to win long term in this sized game.

agree 100% ..your in a poker room you take down any nice pot 20-25$ or higher throw the dealer a bean

they work on tips! and if they are polite and friendly they might get 2 if I win a bigger pot

Being a BJ/Craps dealer for over 12 years and a Poker dealer currently of over 3 years Hold 'em is is the golden goose for casino dealers as you go for your own. BONUS- In poker there is allways a winner every hand.

All depends on the situation, when I go the IP this August I will TIP the dealers EXTRA EXTRA big as hopefully the dealers will love us RXer's.

I dealt BJ in Lake Tahoe a while back but have moved recently to Tulsa so our baby can spend some time with relatives for a year or so. I got a job dealing table games at a fairly large casino here in Tulsa. I work the 8 pm - 4 am shift and for the 6 months i have been there I have averaged 4500 a month gross. Thats unbelievably good for doing what we do. Whats hard to believe is that its no less than Tahoe. Granted Tahoe has many more things going for it than OK but with property what it is here, 4500 a month is f*ing great. My record night was 1200 not bragging..just giving inside info

On to whats expected...oh, we do keep our own and I've heard we are in a very small circle where thats concerned. We only get each table for 20 mins. If a player buys in for 100, 5 a hand, and gets up say 50, then putting us up for a buck or so is greatly appreciated. I like it when a player bets for you instead of just giving it. Lots of people put you up after they have won a few in a row, then continue to bet for you till they lose a hand. When you get on a roll, you can make some good change as a dealer. If you are playing a carnival game and hit say a 30/1 shot with 5 on it...if you were to throw me 10%, i would be very happy. The other night a poker dealer dealt the bad beat for 50,000 and she was pissed about a 1000 tip. I did tell her she was crazy to be that way and then went on a 10 minute rant about female dealers which got me wrote up. lol. I know 3 hot females in the BJ pit that make 6500 a month gross..now thats ridiculous. Chicks get a 10 spot afterr they ahve kicked a guys balls in for 20 minutes. That shows a lot about the mentality of OKla.

I do acknowledge every tip with a "very much appreciated" and a lot come from regulars. I do see a lot of dealers knock the tip then drop it with no acknowledgement and that pisses me off. People seem to be more generous here on the low limit tables as opposed to Tahoe surprisingly. I think its cause in Tahoe people are on vacation and have a set limit to there spending money but here, since they are mostly locals, they seem to be more free with their money since its all disposable income.

A few scenerios from the other night. One guy bought in for 500 and another was already there when i arrived at the 25-1000 table. Both guys went on an incredible run. the first guy playing 50-100 a hand and the 2nd guy that was already there playing 300-750 a hand. The first guy got his bankroll up to 1625..colord up and tossed me the extra 125. Bad ass tip and i showed him my appreciation. The higher limit guy had approx 2500 when i pushed in and ran it to 15,000. He said the most hated words a dealer can here after a run...can anbody guess it...

"Well...Im only down 10,000 now"...sorry if im wrong about this but getting someone unstuck to the tune of 12,500 and every camera on you and all the levels of bosses watching every procedure. I want a tip!!! Sorry you don't know money management and got youself in that hole. Most players in that position would throw you 2 quarters and say "Man..I appreciate it. Sorry its not more. Thanks for getting me partially unstuck. Heres 50" And it would much appreciated and acknowledged from me. Remember that they are playing on avg 500 a hand and thats only 10% of 1 bet. To finish the story....Our house cooler pushed in and the ass the lost all of it back. So he finished down 25,000 for the night. LMAO That was almost better than a tip.

I never thought that dealers would make this knid of money here since you have to ante every hand in BJ..Yep you heard me right... .50 every hand. I have play VERY rarely..i think twice in 6 months because of the ante. But we are full every night but we only have 25 tables. And our $2 table in full...7 spots...all night with people playing 2 a hand and .50 in ante. Funny stuff...people have to have action..even in the heartland.

BTW..CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK WEST...I can almost see the Sierra from here.
sorry for the book..and why does someone have to play the "unskilled labor" card..have some class and respect for your fellow human being.

Good to hear things are good in OK. That's allways a nice bonus when you deal the Jackpot, just got a tip over 3K (cash) a few weeks back for dealing our royal flush jackpot here. NO BJ here but same as you low limit poker does me well, after years of grinding it out in a REAL casino LOL.
