I don't care what was said to him (well I do but that's not the point). He shouldn't have pushed someone in the stands. That's on him he deserves suspensions and 3 games may not have been enough if you ask me. But this is a 19 year old kid getting harassed by a middle aged man. You tell me who should know better. Where do we draw the line here? What if this was a 16 year old high school kid? What if it was a 9 year old elementary school kid? Sure the right thing to do is to tell the authoritative person....but if some old man calls a 9 year old a little worthless shit bag....what do we do when the kid throws a harmless weak punch into the guy's knee?
3 games if more than enough, to me 1 game is enough, just because somebody paid a ticket to attend a basketball game doesn't give him the right to call anybody names even more a racist epithet, i don't know if your race is a minority or not but i'm hispanic and a couple of times that i have been in the states i've been a victim of racism (not a racist epithet so far) and is nothing funny and if I were smart I would even punch him in the face you don't have to take that from anybody, is a basketball game you are at not at the zoo not a circus where you have animals performing, instead of suspending Smart they should not let this "man" attend anymore games be it basketball football or whatever sport for that matter not doing anything to him shows younger kids that is ok to scream racist epithets....the one who carries all responsibility for this situation is the FAN he is the one screaming things he knows he is not supposed to say yet you punish the guy for defending himself and the fan is off the hook. this isn't a professional athlete, this is a 19 year old kid. people are acting like this kid is getting millions to do a show. He is just playing a game of basketball for his SCHOOL. He should've done better but personally I think the grown man is the one we should be bashing.

there are levels of bad...I don't condone violence in any situation
but there are 3 things that I don't even like to joke about. racism, child molestation, and rape.
not saying I think violence is the answer, but those are the three things I tend to look the other way when the offender gets his punishment.

Seems like the majority of people are backing Smart in this...and IMO it's because it's a 'white guy from Texas' who hurled the insult whatever it was....if this happen pretty much anywhere else in the country, other than Texas, I think people would be calling Smart an uncontrollable thug.

If you don't get Smart's attention now, then you are going to have another Ron Artest incident at the next level. There are going to be plenty of fans saying hateful things about you and your family the higher the ladder you climb. Learn to tune it out or else it will be a black eye on you and your employer. It took a long time for the Indiana Pacers to overcome Artest, Tinsley, etc. and they did suffer at the ticket booth. Right or wrong, the player will suffer the consequences long term.

I was shocked when i seen him push the guy, but when a 50 something year old man has to call a teenager a name from the stands then that is bush league.Marcus smart acted on instinct as just like we probably would do if we were called something bad to our face,..its a normal reaction and then afterwards we all say,why did i do that,and that is what he probably said,instead he might have said,damn,my bad as he knew he did something wrong,but this is not this guy's first issue from the stands as against texas a-m he flared the finger i believe at someone so this is not all smart's fault,this guy is just a sad case to call himself a man or a grownup,.......this guy needs some counseling for sure
False...imagine if you were out with your gf or mom and some dude got in their face and called them a c***. I dont know about you but im putting hands on that guy. At the very least a shove. I think we all know what the right thing to do is. But I consider myself a good person that does the right thing....and I'm not sure I could sit back in the situation outlined by moocow. What if some guy tries to offer your 4 year old girl some candy to get into his van (no touching) and as you come to save her and tell to go with you, he calls her a c**t and how he would've loved to F**k the Sh*t out of that little girl. and then starts doing gross faces and making gross sounds. you going to walk away? call the police?
