The Washington Wizards are projected to take Spainish Point Guard Ricky Rubio with the #2 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, unless the Sacramento Kings surprise & take him first instead of Oklahoma's Blake Griffin, which wouldnt be at total shocker though.

If the Wizards can stay healthy, with the addition of Rubio at point guard to distribute the ball to the likes of Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler, good looking young players like Nick Young, Andray Blatche, and a bench who got lots of experience this year because of injuries, they could compete in the East......

Rubio is the real deal, similar to Steve Nash but more athletic.......

I sure hope so, the wizards need to be good. I finally like the NBA and I need a team to cheer for. This year was a joke, they should have paid fans to come see them play

If the Wizards take Rubio, what kind of message does that send to the fans after they inked such a large extension for Arenas? I would think they need a bigger body to have some kind of depth at the pf/c position.

And Flip Saunders was a great hire for a team that hates to play defense. They'll be great for overs.

Flashy, but he's going to need to add some bulk and strength to his frame. Does he shoot jumpers likes Nash?

dumb move. Arenas is a solid PG. He was averaging 8-10 assists. then put Butler at 2 guard, Jamison at SF

Griffin at PF

Haywood at C

From what I've seen, yes, he can shoot.

The problem for the Wiz will be convincing Arenas to put his pride aside & become more of a team player.....

there is no reason to add another PG when you already have a top 10 PG. Griffin is the only move that makes sense with this pick.

Only thing I saw in that video was a bunch of slow moving, dumbass players on D. The kid is highly overrated, will come here and be a big bust.

You must not have watched him play in the Olympics against the NBA players then. The kid looked real solid out there against Paul and the rest of the team. He's very young but held his own just fine. He'll be a solid NBA player for some time.

When exactly was the last time Gilbert Arenas was "healthy"??? :):)

Wizards have talent and Rubio looks NBA ready. They'll improve a ton... but like has already been said, only if they manage to finally stay healthy.

Arenas will move to shooting guard. That is where he should be anyways.

I, admittedly, did not catch too many of his games. Still, he looks very small and I'm just not impressed. He looks Euro-good, not NBA-good

If he has a good jump shot he could be ready to contribute solid minutes off the bat. Also like to know his turnover/assist ratio.

Anywho looks pretty obvious he will be a good one. I'd take him over Griffin.

Since the Lottery isnt for another couple weeks, and the Wizards have only a 35.2% chance at one of the top two picks, then why even the discussion? Likely will be a mute point anyways.

That being said,

The Wizards will be almost guaranteed a top 4 pick in the draft along with OKC, SAC and LAC.

The Clips are stuck with Baron at PG, Sactown has Bobby Jackson and Beno and OKC likes Westbrook.

So I think it's a reasonably safe bet that they'll end up with Griffin or Rubio and become contenders.

I doubt that the Wizards will draft Rubio. The team already has $76 million in committed contracts for next season. The cap is only expected to be around $68 million. The Wiz are more likely to trade the pick for a veteren.

The Wiz are going to make a run at Chris Bosh. He is a free agent after next season and will not be back with Toronto.

Trade the #2 pick, Etan Thomas and Mike James (14 mill in expiring contracts), and Andray Blatche for Chris Bosh. The contracts work it make sense.

Wiz Starting 5 next season:
pg: Arenas
sg: Butler
sf: Jamison
pf: Bosh
c: Haywood

They would instantly compete with Clev/Bos/Orl for the East.
