I thought that the "upper tier" operations did not do this kind of nonsense? I've been "subscribed" to the Olympic newsletter, despite the fact that I have never posted up or registered there, and have not even been to the site in I would say at least a year.

Jackasses.

My point is, I am not a subscriber to Olympic's newsletter. It's fúcking spam. Yes, I already get hundreds of spam messages per day and in and of itself it is not such a big deal to get one more, but one would think that one could expect at least marginally higher standards from one of the companies that seems to be considered top-shelf.

Phaedrus,

If you received our newsletter, then you have signed up to our site or asked for our newsletter.

Olympic DOES NOT spam.

We did send out an announcement about our new poker site today. We have been sending newsletters to our customers, and those that requested to be on our newsletter list, for the last few months. That is the only group that would have received this email, unless someone forwarded it to you.

I'll be more than happy to research to find out if you are on our list. Please feel free to email me at marketing@thegreek.com and we can figure this out.

Karol

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to this post, but let me be perfectly clear: I have never, ever signed up for any newsletter or "keep me posted" type of service from Olympic. You might well find my e-mail address on your mailing list, but it was not I who put it there. A responsible company, especially one of Olympic's stature in the industry, would add the (no extra cost or work on your part) feature of requiring newsletter and update subscriptions to be verified by subscribers.

Once again, I appreciate you responding, but there's nothing to work out as far as I am concerned. I don't join mailing lists with the address in question -- not any mailing lists, yours or otherwise -- and as I said above, I have not visited the Olympic site in at least a year and have never had an account with you. You are practicing irresponsible marketing practices.

I hope your new poker site is a smashing success and makes you enormous piles of dough, and I also hope you one day soon implement a two-step subscription process which requires subscribers to your newsletter to confirm their signup manually, which will cut down on people who don't want newsletters cluttering up their Inboxes from receiving them.

I'm not too bothered by spam myself but you gotta respect a man who stands up for his principles. We're a dying breed and we need to do something about it. Hope you have at least 10 children Phaedrus and show them a good example!

Phoedrus,

I had the same thing happen to me...

I NEVER signed up for OLYMPIC'S newsletter, nor do I have an account with them...

When Skybook started cold calling, all hell broke out here...

I don't see a difference...

It's very annoying to be spammed all the time by lower tier casinos and sports books...

It's surprising to see Olympic stoop to this style of marketing...

Maybe in the next email they will happily let us know they are going to a dime baseball line...

Is this a possibilty, I heard it somewhere they were actually going to offer the dimeline?

JMHO..but if you are a client of the site or have ever posted up at the book and they send you a newsletter..IMO that is not spam as they have your info because you signed up there....I never noticed a button to get off the greek's email list but this is the first peice of advertisment I have recieved from OLY in a LONG, LONG time.. I do not mind knowing what is new at a site I like..

on the other hand if you do not like the site and they send you email unwarranted then yes thats spam

all this is IMHO

I am a player at Olympic and have been since I have been playing and I opted out of their newsletter and have never received anything from them not even advertising their poker site. IMO there was some kind of Mistake or someone put your email into thier database either by miskey or on purpose. Books like Oly do not need to to that type of thing to gain Players. Word of mouth and the marketing that they do is more than enough to keep them busy

Spam sucks but it is nothing like cold calling. Olympic doesn't put spam in front of me when I'm eating dinner or CC it to my whole family's email.

If Shrink and Phaedrus BOTH claim that they never gave Olympic the address that was used in the email, then Olympic must be buying names from a list and it is spam.

You guys should CHALLENGE Karol to send you the account information associated with the email addresses used. If she's claiming you guys are customers, then she should be able to produce this information easily.

Hi again,

I am concerned when I hear that someone believes they are not on our list but receives mail from us.

Another possibility is that a site that we are associated with, such as a forum, has sent the newsletter to their customers. That we can't do anything about.

But if you are NOT a customer or added your email address using the newsletter option on our left menu bar on the home page, then it didn't come directly from us.

Also - if you are on our general newsletter list and then signup, you are removed from the first list automatically and added to our customer list, where you can opt out of all correspondence from us quite easily.

Phaedrus -- You can send me the email you received and I'll research it. Or, on our site, there is an option to remove yourself from the newsletter list, if you would prefer to see if that works. Here is the unsubscribe link:

http://www.thegreek.com/emailunsubscribe.asp

Also note that this is the only complaint I've gotten since we started doing the newsletter last October.

Have a great weekend all.
