How did you get all the ash out of your pool? Doesn't it clog all the filters and pumps?

They just mentioned that 950,000 people have evacuated. Over 1,250 homes destroyed.

I'm not even close to the fires and there is a ton of smoke to the north in sky.

I'm a decent distance away from the actual fires and it is still hard to take a decent breath outside. The air is unbreathable. It is truly disgusting outside. Supposedlly the weather is supposed to change for the better tomorrow. Let's hope so.

whormoan,

Before anything I want to know I prayed for you last night.

Do you have any idea how the San Diego area fire started?

Thanks Gyne. Appreciate it. I'm fortunate enough to live coastal enough that they haven't gotten within 10 miles of me. However, many people I know have lost homes.

I don't know how they started. I know 4 yrs ago it turns out they were started by an arsonist who was locked up for a long time. I can only assume the same. We're not the only city to have this dry weather with wind, yet we are the only ones to get these ridiculous fires. Kind of wierd

Don't the rest of you SoCal guys know that you're supposed to at least check in & let us know that everything is okay?

As far as the cause, at least a couple were due to wind & power lines.

250,000 evacuated in San Diego County, more to come with substantial property loss. An entire hospital is being evaculated. Weather making things worse, not better.

Hoping for the best to all our SoCal posters, even you Whormoan. I have many friends on the 15 corridor and RSF/Fairbanks Ranch area...prayers to all of you.

My brother also lives Rancho Santa Fe/Fairbanks Ranch Area. They're staying with friends in La Jolla after mandatory evacuations. Hoping for the best.

The 2003 fire in San Diego County, known as the Cedar Fire, was started by Sergio Martinez of West Covina, California, who claimed he was hunting in the area and had become lost. At first he claimed the fire was started accidentally by a gunshot but later said he started the fire to signal rescuers. Martinez was charged on October 7, 2004 in federal court with setting the fire and lying about it. On March 10, 2005, Martinez pleaded guilty to deliberately setting fire to timber in the plea bargain under which the charge of lying to a federal officer was dropped. He faced up to five years in prison, but was instead sentenced to six months in minimum-security confinement, which allowed him to leave for work and other commitments, 960 hours of community service, and five years' probation. He was also ordered to pay $9,000 in restitution.

He should have been hung by his balls and then deported.

I heard the magnitude (not cause) of the fires can partially be blamed on the environmental-cases. Forrest management has been prevented from doing controlled burns. Without controlled burns, the flammable inventory builds to critical mass.

PETA, and groups like them could care less about the people and their belongings. Let you house burn down, got to protect all the little critters living in the woods.

Been watching some San Diego county residents pissed off at the firefighters for not saving their home.

There are some people who are saying that the firefighters are to blame. Think will be hearing more about this.

Ok... Checking in here. I live in north Rancho Bernardo which was one of the hardest hit communities that fell right in the line of the firestorm. The "witch creek fire" burned down through Ramona and the San Pasquale Valley and then used Rancho Bernardo as an entry point into the highly populated residential communities. Houses burned down three doors away in both directions. My neighbors kitchen, 20 feet from my home, burned down before firemen were able to put it out. The fence separating our homes burned and fell a few feet from our house. Embers were on our roof and up against our foundation. I estimate 20 homes destroyed within 3 block radius of me. Bush visited 1 block away. I only got back into my surviving house on friday and had the surreal experience of sleeping in an empty burned out nieghborhood except for the armored vehicles patroling to protect against looters. We went without electricity through Saturday early evening.

Here it is a few days later... blue skies, everything is cleaned up and some of the wrecked homes have even been cleaned right off their foundations to get ready for some building.

Quite an experience. This past week was literally hell. Glad it's over

SoCal:

Very glad to hear that your home was spared and sorry to hear about your neighbors not being as fortunate. Life can be very tough and unfair at times. Be well.
