This will likely turn out worse that the Cedar fire of 2003 here in San Diego County... you can wiki that one...

Worse meaning there will likely be more than the 2,500 homes destroyed than that one. From the looks, and there is absolutely no way to tell at this point other than viedo coverage, I don't think there can be any less than 5,000 homes destroyed.

However, it could be less than the loss of life from the last fire, which may be considered a success, considering the damage.

Doesn't Mr Leisure live in San Diego? Hopefully he and our other area posters will check in as soon as they can.

Best wishes to them all.

One interesting piece of coverage was done by KFMB-TV Channel 8 reporter Larry Himmel.

The reporter stood in his driveway showing his completely destroyed remains of his home in which he said he lived in for 25 years.

Wow...that is too bad, Himmel is a long-time San Diego personality. Ramon, where are you located at?

Was this one arson or simply normal SoCal fire?

I have to head down there this weekend (Anaheim and Santa Monica), not looking forward to it now. This is some scary shit. When I lived down there we had a few bigger fires and it isn't fun. There were two while I was in law school (Pepperdine, which always seems to be in the middle of it). During one there was a maintenance truck in the parking lot that was completely charred when we were able to go back to school. It was literally 50 feet from a school building.

we can only hope for another el nino this winter
truthfully, that only exacerbates the problem and likelihood of more fire. A lot of rain means more weed/tree growth which, when it stops raining, turns into taller and higher and more dried out weeds meaning more likely and worse fires. Isn't this kind of late for fires down there?

I heard downed power lines for the huge one in canyon country, and with the wind blowing so strong it spread like crazy

I'm right around the corner from you Mr. L. Couldn't believe the smoke & smell when I got home from the bar after watching SNF.

I live right behind The Marketplace.

Pepperdine was evacuated yesterday but they were later told they were out of danger.

I live right behind The Marketplace.

I live just a mile south of The Marketplace on Jamboree.

Check out Pei Wei and Lucille's BBQ. They're both in The Marketplace. Lucille's is packed on Saturday nights so don't expect good service. Pei Wei is a restaurant in the PF Chang's familiy of restaurants.

Mr. L.....
I'm technically in Irvine since I'm on the East side of Jamboree. It's Cox over here and all is well.

QL....

You been over to The District yet? I've been meaning to check it out. Friend of mine who used to bartend at The Press Box is now at The Winery.

Small world.....
