The Miami Heat have re-signed Dwyane Wade, the team announced Tuesday.

The Heat did not disclose terms of the deal, but sources told ESPN.com it's for two years with a player option for the second year.
Wade took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce the agreement.

Wade later released a statement on his decision to re-sign.

"I am proud to have spent every single day of my career as a member of the Miami Heat and to have brought three championship titles to this great city," the statement said. "I've been here through the good times and the hard times. I have confidence in the Miami Heat organization and the team they are building. To all the Heat fans, in Miami and around the world, I know you will continue to show support for our team."

Heat president Pat Riley also commented on Wade in a statement issued by the team to confirm the signing.

"Dwyane has been the franchise cornerstone for this team since the day he arrived 11 years ago," Riley said. "He has shown his commitment to the Heat many times over the course of his career and has always been willing to sacrifice in order to help build this team into a champion. This time is no different. I am ecstatic to have him back in the fold and I am confident that Dwyane, as always, will be leading this team as we look to contend for NBA championships."

The Associated Press, citing an anonymous source, initially reported the deal to be worth about $34 million but later pulled back on its reporting.

With the Heat's recent moves, including getting commitments from Chris Bosh, Luol Deng and Chris Andersen and signing Josh McRoberts, Mario Chalmers and Danny Granger, the Heat have positioned themselves to give Wade a contract that starts at about $15 million per season. He is expected to sign for up to four years.

Wade played just 54 regular-season games in 2013-14 as he dealt with various knee injuries, and the Heat often held him out to rest him. He averaged 19 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game on a career-high 55 percent shooting. He averaged 17.8 points per game during the playoffs.

He is taking roughly a $5 million pay cut from the two years and $42 million he opted out of to become a free agent last month.

Wade's pay cut, the second time in his career he's taken less to stay with the Heat, helped free up money to give Bosh a five-year, $118 million max contract and Deng a two-year, $20 million deal.

ESPN reports that Wade is taking a paycut from the two years and $42 million he opted out of to enter free agency, but is getting more long-term money.
Dwyane Wade has agreed to a new, two-year, contract with the Miami Heat and is expected to finalize it as early as Tuesday, sources told ESPN.com.

I was thinking the same thing Scott.

They are not paying for him though, they are paying for a big name free agent to keep the fans somewhat happy. They don't want to play in half empty arenas.

I guess they owe it to him for what he's done there.

I'm not sure he plays in the league any longer than those 2 years....

the Heat's DJ? who by the way, played great in his final all-star game tonight

I think Wade wants to bring some stability to the organization and his hoping he can keep them on the radar short term

If Granger can become even 80% of what he used to be, they have a playoff team there and a potential competitor. Wade, Bosh, Deng, Granger, Chalmers??? That's a potentially decent lineup.

I was surprised Chalmers got 4mill a year after the playoffs he had. Figure the Miami Mafia Don Pat Riley would do to him what Michael Corleone had done to Fredo in 2....

He had 2yrs 42mill left on his deal. The only reason he opted out was to help the team, if anything he is being loyal to them by taking 8mill less, not the other way around.

Not sure why people are saying they owe him nothing. They owed him 42mill, now they owe him 34 because of his generosity, not theirs.

Is that the reason?

How long was he a free agent for? Any more than 5 minutes and I say that I disagree with you.

Are you absolutely sure that he had no ulterior motives that went awry?

Why not sign for $5-$10 million per year?

Because he didn't want to make 5-10mill per? I'm gonna guess thats why.

You think he opted out of 2/42 without assurances from Riley/Arison he would still be paid well? Do you also think he is on drugs?

Not sure how to answer your last question. What do you mean by that?

You would need to be on drugs to opt out of 2/42 if you planned to stay with the team without assurances you would be re-signed. He helped the team free up cap room when he didn't have to.

Him giving up that $ over the last 2 years allowed them to sign Deng. He was owed 42mill, it isn't like he opted out of that without assurances obviously.

So he was never really a free agent then?

He just restructured his deal?

If he was being Santa Claus then why wouldn't he play for even less? He is freeing up cap room right?

Who said he was being Santa Claus? He was guaranteed 42mill, he took 34. Him being a free agent was irrelevant because he was never leaving Miami, he didn't even talk with any teams. (you can't restucture contracts in the NBA like you can in the NFL so to do something like this you have to opt out and temporarily become a FA) He was just giving them more $ to make moves. Udonis Haslem did the samething.

Why would he take even less? Maybe he is comfortable taking 17 instead of 21 and doesn't wanna go lower than that. He took 4 million more less than I would.

He supposedly left 8 mil on the table. I'm just wondering why a guy with one knee would do that.

If he was that generous, then why not leave 12-14 or 16 million on the table to help the team?

Maybe he was OK with taking 8 less, but not OK with taking > 8 less? Not really sure why he would have to compromise even more.

You now understand how he was guaranteed the $ and the team didn't just give him 34mill out of loyalty right?

Of course I understand how it works......maybe you don't understand my question......if they were paying him millions upon millions to play there, what do they owe him?

Do you understand that by taking less money last time that he got something out of it too?

Do you understand that it wasn't just out of the goodness of his heart?
