OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Milwaukee Bucks have finalized a three-year extension with head coach Jason Kidd, according to league sources.

Kidd's extension is worth up to $18 million over three years, a source told ESPN's Marc Stein. Kidd will make $5 million in the final year of his original three-year contract before the new extension begins after this coming 2016-17 season.

Bucks ownership hinted to reporters in Milwaukee at the end of the season that the coach was going to receive an extension.

"At the end of the day, Jason is our coach," co-owner Marc Lasry told reporters back in April. "... We think he's done a great job. He's our guy."

Added co-owner Wes Edens: "Jason had real consideration and rightfully so to be coach of the year last year. We outperformed [expectations in 2014-15] ... Jason is a young coach. We all have a lot of room to grow. We're happy with all the progress that has been made in many areas. We're not happy about 33 wins [this past season]."

Kidd is 74-90 as head coach of the Bucks in his first two seasons. He led Milwaukee to 41 wins and a playoff appearance in 2014-15.

Kidd began his coaching career in Brooklyn, where he helped lead the Nets to 44 wins and a second-round playoff appearance in 2013-14, his only season with the franchise.
