Draftkings did something really idiotic .....once the first NBA game tips off.....lineups are locked. They sent me an email saying it's so the player can enjoy the games instead of checking social media. I was like huh? So any late NBA game scratches and you're out of luck. I know fan duel does that. Stupid stupid stupid

I don't understand why FD doesn't show you percentage ownership of each player once the contest started for players whose games hasn't started yet. With no late swap, then who cares??

Unless you want to set your lineup to have outs so you can reconfigure your lineup in the event of news and check injury news every 20 minutes from 7pm to 10:30pm then it is to your advantage that lineups permanently lock at 7.

Yeah you might lose $ to late scratches, but so will others. Over the long-term the casual player will save money by not getting out-maneuvered post lock.

There is a ton of equity to extract from late swap. Especially the 2nd half of the season when there are a lot of scratches and guys sit with minor injuries.

DK reasoning for doing this doesn't make much sense. Don't really have to check every 20 mins.....just check at 10:15 to make sure no late scratch.

The reasoning is so people don't have to check injury news all night.

You don't have to check every 20 minutes, but if you don't and don't configure your team accordingly, you will be at a disadvantage. So it takes that disadvantage away and allows people to enjoy the game rather than it be 4 hour ordeal. Most people don't want to do all that.

Eh.....still think it's pretty stupid. No recourse on a late scratch doesn't make much sense. My thing is putting my lineup and checking a few mins before late tipoff. Not really a 4 hour ordeal at all. People that I've spoken to have sent complaints about it but get the same response

Yeah I get that perspective. Cause the average fan sees that Steph Curry was a late scratch and thinks they got screwed.

But that playing field is = for everyone, over time that will even out.

What won't even out is the advantage that the people who follow it for 4 hours have over those who just don't but use it more as a casual hobby. It is a nice advantage to be able to maneuver your lineup after injuries happen. Let's say last night the Dirk news came 45 minutes later, well you could then get Barnes and Barea and even Powell in your lineup and everyone who didn't would be taking the worst of it.

Now there are other advantages that can be had from there being no late swap (mass multi-entering 3 mins after Dirk news w/ new and improved lineups and playing top players in tournament that are GTD's and getting them at only 1-2% ownership come to mind) but overall no late swap is better for most.

If they want to attract new blood, they had to make this move. People dont want to be tied to their phones every hour checking late-minute scratches. The best way to combat it is to have lineups of all 7PM games and let the competition sweat the late games.

I was surprised it lasted this long. I remember thinking it was really bad policy a few years ago.

But they were the clear #2 then and wanted to provide a contrast in user-experience to the #1 (FD)

Now that it is pretty much neck and neck (and they are merging anyway), they're just doing what is logical.

Obviously it sucks for the experienced player. I quit playing hoops when you had to check 7, 8, 9, 10, and 10:30 late news for lineups. That's tough for the average player.
