And where would you want to bat a potential 40/40 player?? 2nd?? 3rd?? 4th??

Check out his stats with RISP

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
Bases Empty 104 280 19 79 20 0 19 19 19 61 0 0 .282 .334 .557 .892
RISP 83 74 48 17 3 1 5 28 23 19 15 4 .230 .408 .500 .908
RISP w/2 Outs 54 37 18 7 2 0 2 14 12 11 5 0 .189 .388 .405 .793

I have been posting these numbers all season for Skins in the Baseball Forum. The guy hits the most meaningless homers in baseball. You put him up in clutch situations and he rarely comes through.

Well you don't just give up on a great player because you have no pitching...at some point you need cornerstone players.

*ding ding* You are correct. You get rid of Alfonso and theres no one to put people in seats. Maybe Zimmerman but he's no where the drawing power of Soriano.

3rd of 4th.. you need a guy who can make better contact as a lead off man. Soriano strikes out too damn much

If I'm an opposing pitcher, I would fear Soriano more with guys on base than anyone else in that lineup

Give up???

Huh???

The guy is a free agent...he will be the most sought after free agent on the market...where do you get "give up" from?

What will they have to show for him if he takes the big bucks from the big market teams this off season?

EXACTLY!!! If the money is anywhere close from a contender, HE WILL NOT RE-SIGN WITH WASHINGTON!!!!

Yeah I know but people are still thinking he's a 3rd or a 4th place batter with all of his dingers. With all of that speed you would have to be brain dead to not bat him either 1st or maybe 2nd.

Why wouldn't he be able to take advantage of his speed by hitting 3rd or 4th?? They gonna put the brakes on him because Zimmerman, Guillen, or Kearns is batting???

Yeah but he's hitting .052 lower with RISP. I guess we just agree to disagree Ego.

If he can't hit with guys in scoring position, why not trade him NOW then, instead of offering him big money this winter???

btw, Ironman, I'm always up for good debate, no offense taken to our disagreeing. LOVE talking about this kind of stuff buddy

At the very least, the Nats will get 2 sandwich picks at the end of the 1st round of the draft as compensation if he leaves.

He also just K'd with a runner on 3rd and no outs in a 2-1 game.

He is now 18-for-78 with runners in scoring position on the season (.230 avg)...and 7-for-40 with runners in scoring position and 2 outs (.175 avg).

In a pitchers park like Wash has, it is far easier to get average pitchers to perform above average, and keep your studs.
