Just bought a 46 inch sony yesterday at best buy. I want the best picture i can get. How do all of you have your hd tvs hooked up.

First of all you need to have HD service provider aka HD reciever, also an HDMI cable, don't buy at the stores, get them online, much cheaper. A Blueray player is the only way you will experience true 1080p. I have mine set up to auto as far as the picture settings, it has a "Dynamic eye" which changes the setting with the lighting in the room. '

Ok so i need to get hdmi cables but my dish network box is set up in the bedroom and there isnt anything in the living room. Should i get them to switch it around so i can use the hdmi cables

As stated so far, in order to receive HD, you must have a an HD receiver box. Personally, I like the HD DVR's from my service provider (Comcast). You can't get an HD signal without the box. Whether it be Cable, Direct TV or Dish Network, you'll need a box to get HD.

As for connections, agree with others that you should use HDMI cables as they are designed for the highest quality reception well above all other types of cables.

Since you bought it at Best Buy, you should have it calibrated. Cost me $179 from Best Buy (The Geek Squad).

Get a Blue Ray DVD player as well as within a year all DVD's will be coming out in Blue Ray, so you will want to see the best picture of the movies you can.

you can also get HDTV over the airwaves for free with the right antenna

put 'hdtv antenna terk' in amazon, terk products seem to get good reviews (I haven't personally used them)

also depending on where you are , you might not get any/ get few channels

free is free......always nice to have options

I would get it PROFESSIONALLY calibrated. Most if not all the things Best Buy does you can do yourself by buying a $15 calibration DVD.

I had professional ISF calibration. Much different then other calibration services. They use the best lazer equipment the world has to offer and that's why it cost me over $300
