I think the #1 thing that seperates a square and a sharp is being able to get good numbers on your wagers.

I have always been under the belief that both sides can be sharp plays as long as the number is good.

Following the steam or fading the public if done right, is basically getting a number that is better than the consenus number and you will win if you do that.

Squares dont worry about the number they are betting but worry more about the team they are betting. I think that is the main thing (not the only thing but the main) that defines what kind of bettor you are. Sort of what a few others on here have said.

Blue, I posted this several times last year and I fell into this easy way out style of (losing) betting for a while.

There are so many guys doing this fading the public style of betting nowadays, I am proposing that those types, yourself included, are in fact the real squares/ and fading you guys will win more than lose.

Your ncaa football record last season was probably among the worst 5% of regular posters here.

There are times to be cautious of being on popular sides and teams the media is emphasizing, but to blindly fade every popular side will put a bettor on the fast train and headed to the poorhouse.

Before I found these forums and pick posting sites, I won every year and the past few seasons Ive lost alot more than Ive won.

The public will have its good runs and its droughts....

"otherwise there is no difference"

i respectfully disagree...

for example....a square goes on a losing streak and goes 3-20 and loses 5,000 dollars

a sharp goes 3-20 and loses 500.00 dollars

square loses his entire bankroll....sharp lives to fight another week..

imo...what seperates the true sharps is simple

I have been around some of the "sharpest" bettors ever, but even these time tested professionals will get their "nose open" from time to time.

I have always heard that and believe it to be true, however, kinda like "buy low sell high" the devil is in the application.
The best way out that I have found is take the bets instead of placeing them.

Outside of getting the best figures on your bet, whether a selection is sharp or square is subjective, what is more important is how you feel when the result is chalked up. We'd all like more on the winners and less on the losers but being happy with your course of action on a loser is a big step towards
successful betting. :drink:

fair enough. my overall record is posted on my site. I am not getting in a pissing contest.

the problem is that you see this whole sharp vs square thing as a smart vs stupid bettor. The supposed sharp sides and the supposed sqaure sides both win at about 50%. I see a sharp as one who lineshops first and foremost and then someone who is not betting on an already bet up number regaurdless of how much they are going to "smash the spread".

imo there could be two sharp bets on a game and they could be on opposite sides.
