Most people hate them ( especially seniors), but places like Walmart force you to use them by having very few live cashiers and therefore long lines, or you can go self-check, or shop elsewhere.
One of the problems with the machines is they just aren't built for large orders, the best way to do a large order is get a second carriage to load your shit into as you empty the first cart.
You will of course get this message especially on large orders...
Unexpected item in bagging area !
I don't miss my days overseeing those machines, I don't see WM removing them but some supermarkets are.
They work best when buying a small number of items.
They are also great for someone buying crap they are embarrassed to buy, stuff like head lice treatments, wart remover, jock itch spray, diarrhea meds, hemorrhoid stuff, sex products, dandruff shampoo, Depends, etc.
You might not want to put that stuff up on the conveyor belt for all to see ?
I'm comfortable using them since I had to learn the damn things, but every store seems to use different machines adding to the confusion.
