The deductable on medicare is a snap. Just wait and see what your insurance company starts doing to you in your late 50's. I just dropped it and rolled the dice until I hit 65(medicare age). My wife had to do the same thing. Medicare is not free but it is the only afforable thing once you get to that age.
There is no doubt Medicare is the best thing going..But I was in the doctors office the other day and this nurse was telling me about some of this specialized medicine that people need. And the deductibles, even for Medicare can be very high for certain healthcare needs. Something I wasn't aware of before.. Most people won't need this kind of specialized healthcare in their lifetime..But you never know. But medicare is still strict on what they cover and what they don't. They have people who come into the doctors office and monitor and look at the charts on everything that old people have done on them. Right down to getting certain shots, which might or might not be covered under Medicare. It's up to their discretion...So these old people never know what their going to be paying when the bill comes in...The whole healthcare system is a mess..It needs to be fixed..But it won't be easy. And frankly I'm not sure exactly how they're going to do it.
Luckily right now I have some of the best health insurance you can get through my company..But even with it, i find myself having to pay a little more of my healthcare bill every time I go to the doctors office..For instance having to pay for a doctors visit when before it was free. This adds up. Especially since I find myself going to the doctor more often than I would like..
I can understand why somebody would drop their health insurance and chance it..For two people and for decent health insurance we're talking about a $800 to a thousand a month..Most people, unless your a rich republican, can't afford it if they don't get it through their company..
