Schouest, who's D-line are you talking about? LSU had 5 sacks today, USC had 7 on Thursday. Every D-linemen on USC (with the exception of the one that broke his hand and was out 6 weeks) was 1st team all Pac 10. All four starting D-lineman from SC will be playing in the NFL. As good as LSU is I don't think they can make the same claim. It's a little hard to compare these two teams statistically as the Pac 10 is a shootout conference that kills defensive statistics, which is why I go the route of how many guys are going to play at the next level.
As far as an USC/LSU matchup. Even though I had LSU tonight and was extremely happy with the outcome because OU had no business playing for a National Championship after getting their asses handed to them by K-State, I just kept saying I can't believe these guys are getting away with man coverage all game long. OU's Clayton is a slot guy that kills zone with his speed. Williams and Colbert are strength WR's that will kill you if you man them up. Michigan has very good DB's they tried to man up Colbert and double team Williams. They held Williams to 8 catches for 80 yards, but Colbert killed them. LSU would probably man-up both guys which is just asking for it. Another thing is Jason White has really been exposed, he can't read the field worth a damn. He couldn't check down to his secondary guys at all. Even the tv guys said that they're not even looking at the their TE. SC's Offense is based on 3 and 5 step drops, and getting the ball out to whomever has the best matchup quickly and letting their athletic ability takeover. That makes it really hard to blitz them. The only way to beat SC is to jump out ahead of them by a lot and keep the ball so you can wear down their defense. Because they will score points against anyone, I don't care how good your D is. The question is can you outscore them. Now I think LSU has the best Defense in the country, so they would keep SC down more than anyone else, but I also think that Matt Mauck showed that he really sucks tonight so no way LSU puts up enough points to beat SC despite whatever Vincent does. And forget about returns SC was the best in the country in net punting this year.
