Hey guys, I have been all kinds of traveling while trying to make somemoney and I have not been around here much. I ended up closing down my bar and had some things to sell so I put some on craigslist. On one of the things I listed I got a response back from a person with a gmail address and it just simply said:

AVAILABLE FOR SALE?

I responded without thinking and gave him a bit of a description and what not. He just now responded with this:

Hello,
Thanks for getting back to me, I am interested in purchasing the above item mentioned and i am paying by (MONEY ORDER)which will take few days to get to you. Please provide your full Name,Address and your phone number for payment. As per-shipping , I will make arrangement for the pick-up after payment has been recieved by you. I don't mind adding fifty dollars so you can keep it in my favour.. Hope to hear back from you.
Thanks.

So I know this is a scam, but just curious as to what it is. Anyone know?

Ace,

I had a friend try to sell something on CL a few years ago that got an email exactly like that. I thought and still think it's some kinda scam. I think the guy was from the U.K. and signed his name "sweettan" or "sweetman" or something.

Was business at the bar pretty slow the last few months?

Business was horrible! We were in a strip mall type of place and the majority of tenants began moving out. I could see the writing on the wall with the way they were up keeping the property. I stopped paying rent about 13 months ago because I was pissed off at how they were not maintaining the place. Took them 9 months to even contact me. Long story short, we worked it out where we got out of our lease and got about 13 months free. The whole plaza is going to be closing down with in 3 months. Amazing as they have a Publix shopping center in it.

Bar business turned and burned me mentally and physically in the process. Now I am getting out of Florida and finally planning on settling down and trying the Dad life and I can not wait! I was up to six 1.75 liters of Skyy Vodka a week and could see myself becoming addicted to painkillers. I have had enough and now just want to chill.

Never EVER even think about selling to someone who uses the phrase "the item". Just an FYI.

So the scam is for me to give him my name, number and address. I guess my question is, how does this benefit him? How can he scam someone with just that? I guess maybe it is just step 1?

A lot of people will send the stuff once they get the money order with out cashing it...

Get him to western union you the cash...then don't send it...even offer to cover the fees

yes...sorry to here ya had to pull the plug...

When you are in town this next time, stop by there sometime. I really can not recall the name they have now, but it is a cool low key place and if you or your girl like live music (which I must assume you do because of the Buddha) it is pretty goodon the weekends. My very good friend Sal works behid the bar and tell him his ex-coworker from St. Louis told you about the place and he will hook you up. May see some Red Sox down there also and a current NFL guy is in there almost every night. Really a decent place to chill.

Thanks for the condolences and it does suck, but I know one thing for sure it was probabky for the better as the bar life is not for someone with addictive tendencies.
