i wanna know how you manage to put 50K on your car per year...it's going to be hard for me to even put that on my work car and i drive all over the country.

It's more like 40k. A few years ago it was necessary to make frequent trips of about 50 miles each way a few times a day to care for my mother who was in need of care before she passed. That put a lot of miles on quick.

Thats my vote.

can't do it, wife will never go for that idea, even I don't agree with it. She wants a BRAND new car, I want something like off a lease with a guarantee for 40% or so off of new. She wants it now,too !

I may keep the old car even if we get a newer one, and just put miles on it until it croaks.

Wouldn't a transmission cost like 1-2,000 ?

Get a Toyota coming off lease. It will have 35k'ish miles and be a hell of a lot cheaper than new.

Probably go with another Honda, they are pretty comparable. A hybrid is a possibility with the Toyota, the Honda hybrids are ugly. I think I want something with great MPG as it looks like gas is going to remain high.

i blew mine out on the freeway. it just slowed way down, thankfully there was a exit right ahead with a service station past the stop light

that doesn't sound too bad. Did you then junk it or repair it ?

I live in LA and I put 50k miles a year. 200 miles a day. 100 miles each way. There is never any traffic and it takes 1.5 hours everyday from the minute I leave my house to the moment I walk into work.

Its better than working in LA and taking 1.5 hours to go 40 miles.

I can't put 2k into a car worth 2k with the ultra-high mileage.

245k is not worth it. either 1. sell whatever good parts are in the car, 2. donate, get tax write off, 3. trade in for whatever you can get, dealer might gfive you something for it.

might also want to try selling your car at a auction, a auto auction, not ebay. ive seen beaters sold before. i assume the guys just take them for the parts.

tax write-off is useless, I can't itemize no mortgage to use for interest. It can be sold no problem, car looks fine. Lots of useable parts.

Why not drive it until it dies ? It's probably not worth much more running than dead.

yes the transmission slips pretty badly. I guess the question becomes how long will it run like that. Transmission shops won't even flush the fluid, afraid it will make it worse, or die on the spot.

I believe running value is greater than dead value. First of all, when it is dead, someone has to pay towing. Secondly, the value can be verifed when running vs. not running ie this car runs fine but the tranny is about to die. Hard to prove that once the car won't run.

Ive been driving my car in 2nd gear for 6 months, the key is to put your hazard lights on.

I think it might be a senosr or the gear box, you can always adjust the trany, just like a chiropractar adjusts your back.
