To everyone who followed me on my huge Rutgers play I apologize.
What kills me is that down 23-21 with 2:00 left and the ball at the 40 yard line I still felt in my heart they were going to drive it down and score a TD and cover the spread. Obviously, thanks solely to Teel's 6th INT of the season on a pass that I am still looking at and wondering why the hell does a 5th year Senior, 3 1/2 year starting QB stare down TE Kevin Brock and underthrow the ball right into the hands of a Navy LB. This season has been a killer for me due to Rutgers' 0-3 start, and although this was my first Rutgers play of the season, it was also a killer for me in my wallet as I lost 16.50 units.
After paying close attention to the play-calling, it seemed as though the coaching staff was playing with a True Freshman QB not a 5th Year Senior. I'm sure many of you were unable to see the game, but Mike Teel did not attempt more than 2 passes of 10+ yards for the entire game. The Rutgers OL was opening up massive holes for R-Frosh RB's Jourdan Brooks and Joe Martinek, who both had amazing games, and carried the ball on all but 2 plays of the long 4th Quarter drive that gave the Knights a late 21-20 lead. It was amazing how low the confidence level in Teel is for the coaching staff right now. I know people want to say Rutgers' struggles are all due to the loss of Ray Rice, but honestly it boggles my mind how much Teel has regressed without him. I mean he just has absolutely no confidence right now, and the coaching staff has none in him.
The Rutgers defense is another story. The secondary had one drive where they just fell asleep and blew 2 coverages in a row leading to a TD as Navy closed the lead to 14-13. The defensive line. Wow. By the 4th Quarter Rutgers was trotting out LB Blair Bines, and all 235 pounds of him to play DT. Enough said there. Another question I have for the coaching staff is why we only have one playable DT on the roster over 250 pounds. Who are we kidding here. This defensive line is the smallest in college football, and it is becoming a joke how much they get worn down by the 2nd Half of these games.
Before this week I thought Rutgers was a decent football team that was grossly overrated in 2007 and at the start of 2008. Now I am finally ready to admit it. THIS IS A BAD FOOTBALL TEAM. The only glimmer of hope for this team is that the rest of the Big East doesn't appear to be running away from them in 2008. However, regardless how much West Virginia has struggled, I have said it before and will say it again, hammer West Virginia -7 against Rutgers Week 6.
I once again apologize to all of those who lost money by following me this week, I have won so much betting on Rutgers games, both for and against them, but this week I lost and I once again apologize to all those who fell with me.
