So, just how harmful is second hand smoke?

I know there are quite a few smokers here, me not being one of them. Since being back in Cincy I frequent the local riverboat for some good VP. The only problem is the smoke is pretty bad.

My question is, I found a gadget that is suppose to purify the air a bit. I posted a link. Any opinions on if others think this is a waste of money, or could possibly cut down on the amount of second hand smoke I breath.

Thanks,

BB

BIGBET- A friend of mine gave me one of these about 4 years ago in Las Vegas and I lost it after using it for 3 months.

They are TERRIFFIC for playing VP in a casino and I highly recommend you get one if you plan on playing alot.

The only problem is the IONS, which some say are actually bad for you because an ionizer actually produces a gas.

Let me see if I can find an article for you on the subject.....be right back.

I would get one that produces no ions...........just one with a small filter and a fan..........thats all you need.

The filters with ions actually produce a "gas ozone".

From DR. WEIL website.............

You might also consider buying an air filter. I recommend a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter, which removes particles in the air by forcing it through screens containing microscopic pores. These devices work well and aren't too expensive. Get one for the main rooms in your house, or move one from room to room regularly. Avoid air filtering equipment that generates ozone(ions). (HEPA filters don't).

I smoke cigars but yes I would say second hand smoke is dangerous but not more harmful than cars sriving by on the street and inhaling it.

Honestly I have seen a number of studies that pretty much proved time to time exposure won't do much to you. Most people that don't smoke but work in bad smoking environments don't develop lung cancer. What they do develop though is a lowered immune system. If you are just doing it once a week I highly doubt you have too much to worry about, but that still doesn't mean we all should suffer to the delight of smokers.

Another GREAT thing about living in Florida is that NO SMOKING is allowed indoors in public areas.

The only time I breath smoke is on the casino boat.
