HEAD, your choice of direct object here is obviously loaded, but on Nov 5, most of us are in a Forgiving Mood.

America is of course not now, nor will ever be "non-racist".

But certainly the majority voting for an African American to be POTUS provides us with further evidence that the country continues to methodically make strides away from the social attitudes which prevailed as recently as your and my childhood years (1970s).

"America" is not racist, though it has plenty of racist individuals.

Not loaded but more like sarcasm.

Ive personally felt that alot of this percieved racism has been gone for years. The list of successful black folk is long and disintguished these days. The ability for Afro Americans to better themselves is there-hard work and determination still are the hallmarks of success-I suppose Obama is a good of example of this.Im out and about meeting and greeting all the time and I just dont see it.Of course there are individuals and pockets of hate still entrenched in the US but as a whole, the white populus in this country is pretty darn willing to extend equality to most other people as long as they feel its reciprocated.

For some reason though I see the US generalized as racist ,activist Americans mostly who I think exagerate the issue.

The View was on yesterday around the corner from my office in the break room.I heard Whoopi (thank the Lord I couldnt see that hag) saying she up until Tuesday felt like a visitor in the US and now she felt like she 'put her suitcase away'.Cmon man.

This on the heels of her interview a while ago w/ McCain where she asked if shed become a slave again once McCain appointed Justices to interpret the Constituion as originally intended....if somehow her people were right on the cusp of being forced back into slavery...please.

Shes a billionaire actress whos won Oscars I think.

In general,do you feel Afro Americans are still victimized by the US,based solely on skin color?

Every human being in the world has prejudices.Just in america the media and the democrat party has promoted racism. They need an issue. And its always, alway racism of whites against black.Hardly ever blacks against whites or some other combo.

that unlistenable Keith Olberman said the other night that McCain supporters booed when he conceded the pres. race.Like it had to do with Mccain supporters being racist. But, he never mentioned how those same Mccain supporters politley applaused when Mccain mentioned what a historic moment it was for us to elect a black pres.
Its guys like Olberman in the media who are nothing but race baiters.

HEAD, sorry...I did catch your sarcasm, but a bit slow

In more detailed response - Americans continue to evolve away from the bigoted and ignorant attitudes which prevailed prior to our adult years. But those degrees of separation are slowest and most stubborn depending on where you live in the USA.

I'm no expert on those demographics, but I'd bet that the closer one gets to your state (New England region and North Atlantic) the more likely you'll find progressive attitudes towards race. While the further you go away and down towards us, there's a drop off that again improves as you move into central Florida.

Big Dead Zone still in most of western GA, all of AL, MS, AR and East TX. Then improvement starts again as you continue heading westward.

Other forum members with life experience in North Central U.S. (Illinois, Michigan, Midwest) could better grade those areas than could I.
