Kept it close with TCU and Baylor until the 4th quarter, lost to a solid E Carolina team, can put up points, and Houstons defense isnt a world beater. This spread is up to 26 and opened at 22. This spread seems way off to me. I don't see SMU losing by more than 17 in a shootout. Am I missing something?

I would stay far away from SMU right now. I'm an ECU alumni and they looked terrible man. Just moved from NC to Boerne, Texas a year ago.

Their defense has been on the field for a million snaps the last few week. They are done. Awful time for a short week and a strong opposing offense.

I wouldn't say Houston has a good defense. They have played no one except Louisville and have given up 23 points a game. SMU will put up points.

Alwayz - I think Tha Dude was saying its a bad spot for "smu", as their defense has been on the field a lot the past few weeks and the cougs have a strong offense.

In reality, smu has actually won the time of possession battle in 4 of their 5 games and is averaging more than 33 min per game. I think the line opened about where it should have (22 to 23 range). I have no idea why the jump to 26, but that's some serious steam as this isn't public money IMO.

I like smu as well and expect it to drop before tomorrow's game. Not sure how much, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it back around 24.

I'm probably staying away, but good luck either way you go!

He said "strong opposing defense". Houston does not have that. I know what he meant. Good point on the time of possession.

Houston Def not bad. Tulsa, a huge offensive spread offense only scored 24 on them.

this is good info. thank you. once you see that a team really sucks, fade away and make the hay. much better to know who sucks than whom is good

It's Houston or nothing for me. Just trying to decide if the play Houston 1h or for the game. SMU has not stopped anyone this year with a pulse, and atleast UH has made a couple of defensive stops.

Dont have the #'s in front of me but ToP can be misleading. Look at the # of snaps the SMU defense has faced. They have played really uptempo teams and got lit up. Lots of fatigue guarding sideline to sideline uptempo.

The might be ahead on time of possession because it doesn't take their opponents very long to score.

Just providing numbers guys, that's all.

As for total offensive snaps, here's what each game looks like (smu totals are on the right):

ECU - 80 vs 68
JMU - 85 vs 74
TCU - 71 vs 79
UNT - 67 vs 77
BAY - 69 vs 78

They're defense has been on the field for less time and less snaps for the majority of their games. I agree with the fact that smu isn't very good, but saying their defense is tired and always on the field just isn't accurate. They just don't have much defensive talent!

Should be an interesting line to watch throughout the day...

SMU has been hanging in there for the first half of every game, but then their defensive appears to get totally worn out in the 2nd half while their offense sputters as well. I think the line is a bit too high now, might make a 1st half SMU play and hope for their usual first half result.
