The "Bridge Jumpers" will probably show up with 6 figure show bets on Smarty Jones in the Belmont Stakes today. Probably a pretty safe 5% ROI. If somehow, SJ doesn't hit the board the show payoffs will likely be as big as win payoffs. I'll have a big show bet on Purge, just in case.

If Smarty Jones goes off 1 to 5 or 1 to 9, there will be some big overlays in the win pool. If Purge happens to go off at 10 to 1 or more, that would be a very solid overlay.

Smarty Jones will most likely be a Triple Crown Champion later today, but in a horse race for 3 year olds you can NEVER be sure.

Good Luck today gentlemen!

I can't believe that people are willing to bet so much money on a horse.

Five years ago, I lost a tennis bet on Agassi. He got a blister and quit the match. Since then, I've rarely bet tennis (or any individual sport). You're investing your money in the performance of ONE person. What if they get hurt, what if they have food-poisoning, what if they just found out their wife has cancer, etc. If that individual isn't 100% (or close to 100%), your bet is in serious jeopardy.

With a horse, who friggin knows. Does the horse even know he is racing? Does the horse know he is supposed to win? How do you know you're going to get a good effort from the horse?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Then again, millions of people bet on NBA games. And when you think about it, you're more likely to get a consistent effort from a horse than you are from some of the spoiled NBA players. Some horses keep running until they die from exhaustion. I don't think any NBA players are gonna do that.

i dont hink you will see a minus show pool today at the Belmont. Too much over all in the pools for a race such as this to overwhelm. Even if there are some $100,000 show bettors or even dozens it will not be enough to make a huge minus show pool. So dont be thinking there might be some $40.00 show winning ticket on Eddington or something.

Smarty Jones is almost a certainty to pay 2.10 to show and maybe $2.10 to win! If something very strange happens:
lost rider
bad step
jumps rail
injury during race
disqualification

The horses that finish 1-2-3 will pay huge show prices. It would definitely be a big surprise, but nothing I hadn't seen before.

the show payouts will still be very nice if SJ is off the board of course but not the Bridge jumper types of amazing show payoffs you can see a few times a year like a $60.00 show ticket on a 15-1 horse. That will not be in play today.

biggest overlay of the day would have been the show on Smarty $2.60! WOW! anmd that place price was out of sight for a horse that good. granted the other 2 in the money is what made it but those were good prices. not even close to bridge jumpers today,

The way the race turned out the bridge jumpers did well indeed. Even 200 across loses only $10. $5000 to show wins $1500.
