Well, the State of New York, of course. That is, if the Jones boy wins again and becomes the first Triple Crowner since '78. Because a lot of folk will bet the horse and hold onto the ticket as a souvenir. After a certain time, all uncashed tickets revert to the state coffers.
One sidelight: Daily Racing Form editor Steve Crist (son of film critic Judith) went against Smarty in the Derby AND the Preakness. Egg on editorial face. He will surely go against the Philly Flyer again in the Belmont. Handicappers call it "looking for value . . ." and the mile and half are tough for a 3 yr old, but even if I go against him becuase of the bad odds, I'll enjoy seeing Crist land on his ass again.
