Again, Obama is the same as King Midas in reverse. Everything he touches collapses.

The UNHCR says the total number of refugees that have left Syria could be more than 4.25 million by the end of the year. Another 7.6 million people are internally displaced.

"This is the biggest refugee population from a single conflict in a generation," says U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres says in a statement. "It is a population that deserves the support of the world but is instead living in dire conditions and sinking deeper into abject poverty."

As The Associated Press notes: "The new figure shows that the flow of refugees is accelerating only 10 months after the agency recorded more than 3 million Syrians fleeing their country."

About 45 percent of the refugees are living in Turkey and most of the rest are scattered in four other countries – Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt.

"Worsening conditions are driving growing numbers towards Europe and further afield, but the overwhelming majority remain in the region," Guterres added. "We cannot afford to let them and the communities hosting them slide further into desperation."

[h=1]Giant Russian transport aircraft in Syria raise concerns[/h]
The U.S. position is that "any effort to bolster the Assad regime would potentially be destabilizing." According to government spokesmen in both Greece and Bulgaria, Washington has asked them to deny Russia overflight rights, something that has made the Russians angry and led a harsh rebuke of Bulgaria from Moscow.
The planes that flew in came out of southern Russia and flew through Iranian and Iraqi air space to reach Syria. It is not clear whether the U.S. asked Iraq to deny overflight rights.

The Kurds, who have always stood by the US are now being fed to the Turks by Obama as a tradeoff for Ergonazi's cooperation in fighting ISIS. Obama is a disgrace! The Turks shouldn't have to be coddled into bombing ISIS. And they bomb Kurdish areas now much more often than they bomb ISIS.

The Washington Post weighs in on what a disaster Obama (and Hillary) have been for Syria

the worse Syria became, the more justified the president seemed for staying aloof; steps that might have helped in 2012 seemed ineffectual by 2013, and actions that could have saved lives in 2013 would not have been up to the challenge presented by 2014. The fact that the woman who wrote the book on genocide, Samantha Power, and the woman who campaigned to bomb Sudan to save the people of Darfur, Susan Rice, could apparently in good conscience stay on as U.N. ambassador and national security adviser, respectively, lent further moral credibility to U.S. abdication.

Obama has completely wrecked the Middle East. Syria, Libya and Iraq are all worse off due to his staggering incompetence.

If the gameshow, "What's My Line?" were still around today Obama could be a guest. His clue for the contestants could be, "I like to draw red lines in the sand. And then walk away from them."

The world community owes Assad and the Syrian army a huge hero badge for helping the world tackle
this Radical Islamist menace. Assad is like the kid in Holland protecting the country from getting
flooded by plugging the dike.

Russia has it right here. That part of the world needs strong leaders to keep the local vermin in line.
If Syria were to fall, do you think it would be to a pro-U.S. government? No. It would be ISIS.
Russia is doing us a favor by backing Assad, who is much, much more moderate than ISIS
and the countless other turd bag groups of Islamic fundamentalists running around that area of the world.

I disagree with you here. Assad is a self-serving fuck like every other Arab dictator. He is not fighting ISIS - ISIS has filled a vacuum he and Obama created. He is slaughtering his own people as he learned to do from his father. His sect is only 10% of the population so his family has ruled brutally for decades as that's the only way to sustain power. I am not claiming that it will turn out better if he's overthrown, or that two opposing evil forces checking each other is a bad thing. But for God's sake the puke is dropping barrel bombs on town squares and neighborhoods. And obviously Russia is out only for itself. Look how many have fled. Assad is causing a global refugee crisis. Please don't insinuate he's some hero. His dictatorship is propped up by the world's largest terrorocracy in the world, Iran.

You beat me to the punch here, Scott. Assad is pure evil. Assad has one goal, stay in power. I have no desire to pat a guy on the back who sees fit to barrel bomb and use chemical weapons on his own people.

Islamic State Has Killed Many Syrians, But Assad's Forces Have Killed More - Hugh Naylor
President Assad's government has killed far more people in Syria this year than the Islamic State, monitoring organizations and analysts say. Between January and July, Assad's military and pro-government militias killed 7,894 people, while the Islamic State killed 1,131, according to the Syrian Network for Human Rights.
The Syrian leader has increasingly relied on his air force as his military suffers huge losses to advancing rebels. The government's Russian-supplied aircraft can fly practically unopposed over rebel-held areas to launch airstrikes, which include releasing barrel bombs. During a 10-day period in August, air bombardments killed or wounded 1,300 people in Douma, a suburb of Damascus, and surrounding areas. In July, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented nearly 7,000 government airstrikes conducted around Syria. (Washington Post)

REUTERS - In five years of civil war, 400,000 Syrians have been killed and another 70,000 have perished due to a lack of basics such as clean water and healthcare, the Guardian newspaper reported on Thursday.

With those injured in the conflict, that amounts to more 11 percent of the population, it said, citing the Syrian Centre for Policy Research.

About 400,000 of the deaths were directly due to violence, while 70,000 died because they didn't have proper healthcare, medicine, clean water or housing.
