Anyone who has read any of my posts or thread knows I'm a duck fan and I love watching uptempo and spread offense play. But one thing I've always appreciated is great lockdown defense. In today's age it's becoming more and more difficult to keep teams off the scoreboard. Last year for some reason or another I took a liking and placed a few wagers on the temple owls. Obviously they play in the AAC, which is not a power five conference and is typically dominated by teams like Cincy or ECU, but these hooters can play some defense. Interestingly enough I was browsing thru Phil steeles 2015 returning starters article and noticed that temple is the only school in the nation to return all 11 players on one side of the ball, in fact temple returns 19 total starters which was good enough to be tied for second in the nation. Think about how good they were defensively last year and now return 11 guys(according to Steele).... That's remarkable. Their offense was atrocious at times but they flat out went toe to toe with penn state and a couple other teams. This season they open at a neutral Philadelphia site against the nittany Lions, and also play notre dame, ECU and Cincy.... That's a formidable schedule for an under the radar team with 19 returning starters . Temple won me some money keeping games under the total with their prideful defense and also won a few wagers for me by staying within the number as dogs.
One more ore thing to think about, although their offense was horrible at times, they do return their dual threat qb and all 5 offensive lineman. I'll be watching their lines closer than ever this year, especially against penn state, ECU, Cincy and notre dame where they will almost surely be double digit dogs in what I would presume would be all four of those games.
Feel free to throw your two cents in this thread, or 10$ lol... I just thought I'd share that information with you all in the case that some of you may like to bet the smaller schools as much as I do
