By the way, as a poli-sci major, it must be more obvious to you that our Constitutional form of government is vastly superior to your Parliamentary form.
I didn't major in PoliSci, I majored in cultural anthropology, with a minor in critical thinking. I'm just doing my Masters in PoliSci, is all. So kinda new to the realm. My thesis is on Neoconservatism, Fascism, and Stalinism, both to compare and contrast. I just started to learn about American politics a year ago.
At any rate, to answer your question, I would say that a cursory review of both would suggest that each have their good and bad points. I've never liked that we don't vote directly for the PM, unless you live in his/her riding, but then I can't say that your recent election mayhem give me any comfort, either. Our Senatorial process is a brutal joke, however, and only serves to create party hegemony long after the party has been given the boot.
To be sure, though, I deplore your campaign finance laws, including the ability of tax-exempt groups to stick their noses in politics. This goes for moveon.org as equally as it does churches.
Each side has its issues, no doubt. Ours just doesn't mean as much in the grand scheme of things.
What specifically do you not like about the parliamentary system that makes the republic better?
