I don't think it's fake but it's a total trash sport, if you can even call it a sport. The popularity of this "thug" activity just shows you how tasteless and classless the American public has become.
I watched that Bisping fight someone posted recently here. Disgusting. I was embarassed I actually watched it. The guy (Henderson?) puts a solid right on the guy and knocks him out cold. He didn't exactly wave the ref over to stop the fight - jumped on him as he was layed out and threw another right to his unconscious opponent. He would have kept going to - it took the ref jumping on his back to get him to stop. Yeah, beautiful "sport".
Yeah, it's a sign of the times, unfortunately. Years ago something like this was underground, now it's "mainstream". Great.
I remember years ago Sugar Ray Leonard fighting (I think) Hearns, and waving the ref over during the fight. It was clear the opponent had nothing left and Leonard was just taking free shots. He was trying to get the ref to stop the fight. Unlike the UFC, Leonard had respect for his opponent - he didn't just want to beat his brains in.

Is slugging a guy who's flat on his back, knocked out cold illegal in this sport?
So you are basing the entire sport on one fight? How many boxers have died from being hit too much? Mike Tyson is a real role model.
When Tyson behaved badly and outside of the rules, he was dealt with. What exactly is out of bounds in this sport? It's pretty clear sportsmanship isn't expected.
