How are the real prices of things? Granted the exchange rate, but for instance how much does a McDonalds' meal cost in USD? Is it more or less expensive, in real terms, than the US?

great post!

Biggest and craziest gambler are in Macau, over 98% of them are Chinese from Hong Kong and mainland. And the world fastest developing casino industry are ready to claim the #1 spot in gambling revenue in a year or two, with more than 10 billion dollars are ready to invest in the next couple years, it's just a blast, and amazing...went there last summer. Also reported a license is sold for 900 millions, yes, 900 millions just for a license.

GD is a better fit for Singapore. They will do things a lot more like the Nevada model there. Macau is years from being on a pure Nevada model, they are still going to be doing the junket business for another 5 years at least.

Singapore will be a better market for the two winners because the taxes will be far lower and the competition will be a lot less intense.

Quantum,
I know your company sent you there for work. May I ask what do you do for a living? I mean your profession now.

You can't get a seat at the baccarat table. You got to bet over people sitting on the table's shoulder to make a wager.

Plus the dealer doesn't take 5% when you win on banker. They make you pay tips for winning. Unlike Atlantic City or Vegas, you tip when you like.
In Macau casinos, you have to tip.

Macau casinos are too crowded and too many loansharks hanging over your shoulder.

Good stuff Quantum,
I am fascinated by Singapore and enjoy your details. Any info on the casino developments and bidding? Would you say you it is a good place for a mid-30s single male like me?

I have been to Asia twice in past 12 months.....I will say Asia is a great place for any straight single 30 something man.

QL, glad to hear you are enjoying your trip.

Maxxx, I fully intend to make friends with the ladies here but I don't go for the pros. I have to start getting out more at night now that the project is going along well. I'll post my pictures at my photo web page.

A McDonald's meal and other fast-food meals are a little less than SG$10 which is about US$6. The restaurants in the hotel range from SG$32 for breakfast to SG$55 for a dinner. I get US$60 per day for food so I can spend about SG$90 per day.

A 6-pack of beer is SG$16 which is the equivalent of US$10. I bought a pint of Tiger beer at the bar in the hotel and it was SG$18+tax! I bought a Tiger beer at a different bar and it was only SG$10.

I hope to go to Thailand after testing the prototype. There should be some time between the end of testing and the beginning of when the equipment comes in. I may be put on a temp assignment for a couple days so I don't know for sure.

I am a computer consultant. I am designing and implementing a new computer system for our client.

I've heard good things about China. I hear it's very cheap to visit. I hope to stop by Beijing on my way home.

Nice report QL. Enjoy your stay. I've been to Thailand and Malaysia but didn't have time to get to Singapore.

Thanks kaiz. I'm going to be spending some time on Phuket Island. One of the Singaporeans that I work with suggested I fly over to BKK for at least a day or two. I'll let you know when I do.
