I bet the field against Dent for The Samsung Open as a FUTURE

I took the field against Dent -340 to win 500

Dent withdrew from the tournament as a walkover winner.

I was betting on a future and other matches were started and the field has served the ball and played just fine.

Tennis Wagering

All wagers have action once a ball is served, regardless of the date the match/event is completed.

A "Walk Over Winner" (player concedes before a match) is graded no action.

In proposition wagering, all props involving the match are no action if a participant resigns/concedes during a match.

According to these rules,I believe its clearly no action.
Since you ve decided to play such bet,you should have chosen to play elsewhere,80% of the bookies would have graded it as a winner.

ari - i was under the mistaken notion that
you had bet on "dent not to win the tourney"
before the first round.If you made this bet
just prior to his defaulting/walkover it will
most likely be graded a "no action" via the
"one ball must be served for action".
But perhaps you have enough balls to convince
the bookmakers otherwise

If Dent teed off on the first hole and then withdrew...it's a winner. If he didn't play any holes it's no bet.

This is a VERY tricky case.

I read the rules on the 5 Dimes website, and it is still unclear.

Normally, if you bet a Future bet on a player to win a tournament, and the player drops out from injury during the tournament, the future bet loses ...

... so, in this case, since areef was betting on the opposite side, it seems like maybe the bet should be a winner. If areef had made the bet at the beginning of the tournament, I would definitely lean towards this bet being a winner.

However, if he placed the bet just prior to the match in which Dent was a walkover loser, then I'm not so sure.

As jwunderdog said, it would be interesting to see how they graded (or would have graded) a "Dent to Win the Tourney" bet placed immediately before the Dent walkover loss.

One thing I am noticing here is I get a lot of disputes on tennis relevant to the amount of $$$ wagered. I would have to believe the rules may not be concise enough for this many problems to arise. Maybe the books aren't as familiar with it so the rules aren't clear but for some reason there is a lot of tennis problems as compared to bets on football, hoops, bases etc.....

Anyone else notice that, and if so what are some solutions. Most of the time the decisions fall right in the gray area too. Maybe we need more exact rules from the books who take action on this sport? Either that or maybe some of the bettors aren't as familiar with betting on the sport either. I know I have never placed a tennis wager in my life.

Once the first ball is served up, you should have action and if he gets beat or pulls out for any reason after the first point then you should have a winner. If their rules say otherwise I would quickly find another book to bet at.

The problem is this situation can't happen in football, baseball, or basketball or any other team sport. You can't bet the field against a team and have the team just withdraw. It just doesn't happen.
