NEW YORK (AP) -- The Knicks contend Larry Brown broke Madison Square Garden policy with his roadside interviews, a decision the team believes could wind up saving them millions.

The Knicks fired Brown on Thursday after one season as their coach and replaced him with team president and general manager Isiah Thomas. Brown has four years and a reported $40 million left on his contract, but the Knicks say the Hall of Fame coach is not entitled to all of it because of his disregard for team policy.

It amazes me this crap product known as the NBA and its teams can afford to just blow 40 million, I just can't understand who pays for these tickets, the regular season is a joke....meanwhile teams toss away 40 million dollar coaches like it's nothing.

Didn't he use up more sick days than most coaches use in a career...

Dawoof and Teaze, why do you guys think he should be paid the full amount if he broke a rule on his contract?! Or did you guys not know that yet.

the rule to only talk to reporters with a pr guy present? wtf is that? never heard of such a rule and personally feel it wouldn't hold up if they took it to court. the 5 gaurd egomanicial team he was forced to coach is worthy of a lawsuit itself. i think that is more of a free speech issue than a "contract voiding" issue. i'm no lawyer but doubt this stands.

I think the guy was in it for a quick final payday. He went in did a horrible job and knew he would get away with highway robbery. That said the Knicks are the idiots who hired this guy, so now they will end up having to pay him. Serves them right.

Isiah needs to spend less time at the Red Lobster and more time in his office.

This will be interesting as David Stern is the arbitrator for the case (in Brown's contract). He probably should get half.

The knicks are trying to pick a fight with Brown since they can tie this up in courts for many years if it goes to that and at brown's age a multi year court case isn't in one's best interests. The Knicks have no case anyway so they'll end up agreeing to a dollar figure out of court.

Funny how I never heard about the Knicks complaining about Brown doing this until they are trying to get out of paying him. They had to find some bs reason to try and get him to settle for less money.

According to the tearm in Brown's contract, it will not go to court. There is a one-man arbitrator hearing the case - David Stern. This will get very interesting.
