Given the choice - what combo would you take?
The current Yankees combo of A ROD and Jeter, or the 1980 World Champion Philadelphia Phillies duo of Mike Schmidt and Larry Bowa.

No contest really, Bowa wasn`t the hitter Jeter is...

Best fielding SS/3B combo;

Brooks Robinson/Mark Belanger

About 27 Gold Gloves between them ( I don`t know the exact amount) these guys could pick it!

Jman, no Bowa was'nt the hitter A ROD is but he was not at his very prime that far behind Jeter as an all around fine SS. As for Schmidt, he may easily be the best ever at 3rd.

Schmidt could hit.. but the best ever all around third sacker in my humble opinion was GEORGE BRETT.. hands down!

THIS IS TO FUNNY!!!

My friends and I just got kicked out of the bar last week over the argument of who is better..........SCHMIDT or BRETT.

I have always been of the contention that you cannot compare TRULLY GREAT players.

I am a HUGE Brett fan and would lean towards George, however I would never say he was BETTER than Schmidt.

My friends from PHILLY claimed Schimidt was better.

I raised my voice and said in no way can you say SCHMIDT was BETTER than BRETT. NO WAY!!!

Just like I cannot say BRETT was better than Mike.

BOTH TRULLY GREAT 3RD BASEMAN!!

ps- I still have a small lean towards George.
