HBKSHAWN:

Are you asking about the opening numbers, the ones the books hang up there for a select few to call in and get on them, before they're sent to DB? Or opening numbers as in the lines that are sent to the feed after the loyal sharpies have already gotten down on them?

In MLB, the number is really just what the action reflects. All you need to know is who's booking and who's gambling. You will then find who needs what and you'll be able to make a judgement based on that.

Usually, a number in the middle will not get any business. So if you are standing right in the middle and your books are balanced, you might wanna hang a number in the outside -based on an opinion- in order to get action.

Now, if you're balanced, why go to the outside? That's exactly where the booker with skills shows his game. If you know your players and you know that increasing your exposure on one side will only lead to a specific player to call in, you can then use that extra weight on one side to offer a heterogenous number on the OTHER side; getting more action, but still remaining balanced before the game goes off the board.

There are guys that have an opinion, but they also have the instict and the balls to back up an opinion. Technically, that wouldn't be booking, that's arbitraging. But it works wonders for guys that know what they're doing.

I could tell you who's booking and who's arbitraging -solely my opinion-, but all you need to do is watch the screen, carefully and you'll find on your own. That's all.

Stone Cold:

In MLB, Lenny @ Cascade has built a reputation of being extremely sharp. If you have a screen in front of you, check out Pinny's moves and Cascade's moves. That should tell you a lot.

Walk,

I agree 100% they are SHARP.......But for a OPENING NUMBER? I guess, if ya PUT IT out after the REST........

Right now CRIS, OLY, and WWTS have out the COLLEGE, so IMO, they are the SHARPEST, no need for it to get HAMMERED around befor they put it out..................

Stone:

That's exactly my question. Does everybody have access to the numbers BEFORE they hit the screen? There's a lot of action happening outside the screen.

I agree about CRIS, OLY and WWTS. But I think that the fact they're hanging early numbers out there has to do with 2 things:

1. Their sharpies have ALREADY hit them
2. Those are books with huge bases of square players. So, are they really increasing their exposure? Or are they booking?

Do you think it's coincidence that 2 out of the 3 books you mention are offering 20 cents for MLB? It might seem there's no relation there, but believe me Stone, there is.

Sharpest opening line is GRANDE but they put their lines up late so it´s tough to compare.

maybe this is a stupid question but...if its put up late, is it really an opening line?

If you accept the proposition that the closing line is the sharpest, the later a line goes up, the sharper it is and consequently the less useful the book is for the player.

GREAT QUESTION.................

Hahaha from what I saw yesterday the Stardust must have the best opening line!!

The Olympic had up their college FB numbers and then bang....ALL of them came down.

Hmmmmm it seems at the same time they came down at the Olympic is just when the Stardust numbers came up!!

I didn't hear of the Stardust wiping their board clean and starting with different numbers like the Olympic did!!

ACW - the later the book hangs their numbers the safer it is for them, gives the numbers time to settle down some. I am far from educated on all this but all books have their own game plan on how they want to do business. Some of these books who post their lines first and take all comers are wide open with the amount of exposure they leave themselves out there with. It is reflected in their low hold percentages but made up for with the huge amounts of volume they do. Things can get ugly when key numbers are landing against you, LOL. It's all a game and books have different approaches on how they want to operate. Not sure there is one "right" way to book.
