Best plays for Friday:
Milwaukee +1.5 -142
Why is Atlanta favored today ? Only the books know that. Of course the linemakers usually know better than us, but they are not always right on the money, especially in baseball. Atlanta is favored because they have a name and the Brewers don't. However, this Atlanta team is not that good this year. They have dropped 8 straight following a win and 8 straight when trying to win consecutive road games. When both Atlanta and their starting pitcher Ramirez are coming of wins, they are 1-4 in last 5. On Thursday they scored more than 5 runs for only the second time in last 10 games, and that will not be enough against the red hot Brewers who won 5 of 6, and scored 6 rpg on average in their last 9. This Milwaukee team never gives up. They won three straight games, all three coming from behind against Montreal and they are 9-5 in last 14 at home. Four of their last five losses were one run losses. They play everyone taugh and Atlanta will have their hands full tomorrow. The Brewers are 8-3 in game 1 of series, Atlanta is 3-8. The Brewers won 5 of last 6 openers against the Braves, including three straight at home. Ramirez has not been able to give Atlanta consecutive wins in his starts since early September 2003 and Santos has been very solid for Milwaukee in his two starts this year allowing 3 ER in 10 IP.
Texas -132
Detroit only 1-11 in last 12 coming of a win and 2-7 in last 9 series openers. Texas 6-0 in last 6 coming of a loss and 7-1 in last 8 series openers. Texas averages 7 runs per game in their last 9 games and Detroit is just awfull at home, scoring 2½ runs per game in last 7 home games. Texas is 4-0 revenging a loss to Detroit recently and Benoit has been a very good bounce back pitcher lately as well. He is 3-0 while not allowing a single earned run in 17 IP in his last 3 starts following a loss. In his only career road start vs the Tigers he got the win pitching well into the 8th inning. Knotts' last 4 starts were ugly, as he allowed 21 ER in 13.2 IP and he was no better coming out of bullpen this year, posting a 6.32 ERA.
