Been following an angle in Hockey ... Shot Efficiency ....
Last 7 years
7 out of the last 7 years the Stanley Cup Winner had above 1.01 in Shot Efficiency ......Each Stanley Cup Winner ( last 7 Yrs.) was at least 13 or more games over .500 and were at least 5 games over .500 on the road , the year they won the Cup ... plus their goals against none higher than 209 ( Chg 2010)
My Breakdown
2016-17
4 Teams ( Made Playoffs ) have a Shot Efficiency of above 1.01 .which is required and Under 209 Goals Against …
Washington with a Shot Efficiency of 1.09 .. ( only 1/ 7 champs won with a shot eff of below 1.12 ) .... Wash is 36 games over .500 at 52-18 ... with a Goals Against 178 .... Road Record 23-12 / Solid ... ( 5-1 ODDS )
Minn ….1.02 ….THEY QUALIFY 208 Goals Against … ( 9 -1 ODDS ) …
Columbus ….1.02 …. VERY DANGEROUS CLUB … 26 GAMES OVER .500 . / GOALS AGAINST SUPERB 195 / 10 GAMES OVER .500 ON ROAD …THIS TEAM REMINDS ME OF BOSTON 2011 …SAME KIND OF STATS ONLY BETTER THAN BOSTON …. AT 10 - 1…
Montreal ….1.01 ….. 21 GAMES OVER .500 / GOALS AGAINST 191 / 9 GAMES OVER .500 ON THE ROAD ….... 13 -– 1 ODDS …
This is only over the last 7 years guys ….not a huge streak by any means ….but a trend you won’t see anywhere … I broke this down myself …
Trend # 2
Last 8 Years Stanley Cup Champs ....
NHL Defense Sorted By Scoring Per Game .... No Champ higher than 2.84 / 2009 Pitt
2009 / Pitt ...2.84/ #17 Rank
2010 / Chg ...2.48 / # 6 Rank.
2011/ Bos ....2.30 / #2 Rank
2012 / LAK ...2.07 / #1 Rank
2013 / Chg ....2.02 / # 1 Rank
2014 / LAK ....2.05 / # 1 Rank
2015 / Chg ....2.27 / # 2 Rank
2016 / Pitt ....2.43 / # 6 Rank
No Champ higher than 2.84 / 2009 Pitt
2017 Teams in playoffs that have lower than 2.84 / but remember over last 7 years no higher than 2.43 / 6 years in a row prior to last year’s 2.43 //// was below 2.30 ….
So in recap … Washington / Columbus / Anaheim / Montreal / San Jose are the only teams which were under 2.48 in which the last 7 champs had .
1/8 champs had higher than 2.48 …..
Trend # 3
Last 6 Years / Voided short season 2013
All Champs have had a Penalty Efficiency Ratio of above 1.01
Teams below the 1.01 in 2017 that are in Playoffs
Columbus 0.99
Anaheim 0.98
Boston 0.96
Wash 0.95
St Louis 0.94
Calgary 0.92
Montreal 0.86 … Last Place / Ouch / Ranked 30[SUP]th[/SUP]
Bit surprised to Washington and Columbus in this group …
All I ask is some feedback guys … GL whatever you decide !
