#501 ORLANDO @ #502 TORONTO - 7:35 PM
The Toronto Raptors can look down on the rest of the Eastern Conference after producing the best seven-game start (6-1) in franchise history. The Raptors look to maintain solid play on both ends of the court and extend their winning streak to five when the Orlando Magic visit on Tuesday. The Magic, who have lost eight straight to Toronto, must contain the talented backcourt duo of DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry, who combined to score 47 points in a 108-95 victory at Orlando on Nov. 1.
The Raptors have won the first two on a seven-game homestand by 19 and 32 points, respectively, to tie Memphis and Houston for the best record in the league. Raptors’ coach Dwane Casey told reporters the most important thing is that his team develops “a consistent personality” and that will be tested against Orlando, which has lost 29 of its last 31 road games. Toronto outrebounded the Magic 50-40 in the first meeting this season.
#503 LA LAKERS @ #504 MEMPHIS - 8:05 PM
The Los Angeles Lakers have ended their worst start since moving to Los Angeles in 1960 and look for their second straight victory when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday. The Lakers lost their first five contests before recording a 107-92 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday. Memphis won its first six games and had the best start in franchise history halted with a 93-92 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday.
The Grizzlies are tied with the Houston Rockets and Toronto Raptors for the best record in the NBA as they open a four-game homestand. Memphis has won a franchise-record 16 consecutive home games dating back to a loss to the Washington Wizards last February. Los Angeles is tied with Denver for worst record in the Western Conference but gave up a season low for points and allowed just 41 second-half points in the victory over the Hornets.
#505 OKLAHOMA CITY @ #506 MILWAUKEE - 8:05 PM
After a much-needed win and with many battered bodies slowly returning to health, the Oklahoma City Thunder can be optimistic for the first time in weeks. They hope to carry those positive vibes into Tuesday's night visit to Milwaukee, which also is riding a high after a dramatic win over previously unbeaten Memphis on Saturday. The Thunder, who won 101-93 at Sacramento on Sunday, hope to have guard Anthony Morrow and forward Perry Jones back from knee injuries soon, perhaps as soon as Tuesday.
The fact that the Bucks, last season's worst team, have a better record than Oklahoma City, which had the second-highest win total in the league, says plenty about the Thunder's rash of injuries but it also speaks to some improved play in Milwaukee. Brandon Knight's three-point play in the closing seconds lifted the Bucks past the Grizzlies by a 93-92 margin and capped a rally from 10 points down in the second half against one of the Western Conference's early powers. Milwaukee, which improved to 3-4 after opening last season 3-16, has not had consecutive victories since March 17-19, 2013.
#507 SACRAMENTO @ #508 DALLAS - 8:35 PM
The Sacramento Kings are hoping to prove they’re for real on their current road trip, and so far the results have been mixed. The Kings will try to bounce back from a loss when they visit the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday. Sacramento began its four-game trip with a double-overtime victory at Phoenix before falling at Oklahoma City and will close out at Memphis on Thursday before heading home to entertain San Antonio.
The Mavericks have won 20 straight home games over the Kings and are looking to bounce back as well after beginning their four-game homestand with a 105-96 loss to Miami on Sunday. “I’m concerned about how we’re competing as a team,” Dallas coach Rick Carlisle told reporters. “We just have a problem right now from top to bottom with consistency. When our level of competitiveness comes up to where it should be on a consistent basis, a lot of our problems will dissipate.” Competing for rebounds could be a key, as the Kings enter with the top rebounding averaging in the NBA at 47.4.
#509 CHARLOTTE @ #510 PORTLAND - 10:05 PM
The Portland Trail Blazers attempt to record their seventh consecutive home win against Charlotte when they host the Hornets on Tuesday. Portland has routinely cruised to victories over the Charlotte franchise and hasn’t suffered a home loss against Charlotte since March 29, 2008. The Hornets are 0-3 on the road this season after losing 107-92 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday in the opener of a four-game Western road swing.
Portland routed Charlotte 134-104 last January when it had a 52-30 rebounding edge and tied the franchise record of 21 3-pointers. Point guard Damian Lillard hit all six of his attempts from behind the arc and shooting guard Wesley Matthews went 5-for-6 as the Trail Blazers were 21-of-33. The Hornets will strive to play better defense on the perimeter and hit the boards harder while also aiming to avoid falling two games below .500.
#511 SAN ANTONIO @ #512 GOLDEN STATE - 10:35 PM
The Golden State Warriors had their undefeated run come to an end on Sunday and are trying to figure out how to take better care of the ball. The Warriors will try to clean things up and take advantage of the San Antonio Spurs, who will be playing the second night of a back-to-back. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich is not a fan of the Spurs’ recent run of back-to-backs, and resting several regulars is never out of the question.
San Antonio had to put out a lot of energy in order to power through an 89-85 road victory against the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday and never gained the lead until finishing the game with a 14-3 run. The Spurs were able to stay close enough in the fourth quarter thanks to committing just eight turnovers, 19 fewer than Golden State’s season high in Phoenix on Sunday. “You can’t win in the NBA with (27) turnovers,” first-year Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters. “Consistently, you’re not going to win just flinging the ball around.”
