At first glance you look at BYU and see a team that is 8-2 SU it’s last 10 games. Then you look and see the 2 losses were to Gonzaga who is in the Sweet 16. That’s enough to get most people to jump on the BYU bandwagon. But let’s look deeper the West Coast Conference really only had 3 teams in it. Gonzaga, St Mary’s and BYU. The rest of that conference was not good. BYU’s 8 wins in that 8-2 run came against the also rans of the conference. They didn’t face St Mary’s in that 10 game stretch. Creighton’s record doesn’t look as good on paper but it’s because they played a much tougher schedule. Creighton’s defense held 4 of it’s last 6 opponents to 39% or less from the field. The 2 teams that they didn’t hold to 39% or less was Xavier and Seton Hall. In it’s 2 NIT games against Alabama and Wagner they held them to just 28 and 29% shooting from the field. Note that BYU is just 5-14 ATS in tournament games the last 3 seasons. BYU is also just 19-33 ATS following a game in which they scored 75 or more the last 3 seasons. Creighton is 8-1 ATS when coming off back to back wins at home of 10 points or more the last 3 seasons. My numbers have Creighton winning this by 1-3 points so getting this generous number makes this one a SLAM DUNK.
